Is there such a thing as a budget priced upright freezer that actually works? I have been searching online and seems that ones under $400 all get horrible reviews.

Does anyone have one that they love that won't totally break the bank? I really want to stay away from a chest freezer because I know things will get buried on the bottom.

We just got one on Oct 2nd from Sears its an upright 6.5 cu ft Kenmore, no issues so far. I don't know how to posts links but if you go to Sears.com and go to appliances then freezers then upright you'll see it. It was $300 and the nice thing was I picked it up from the store; so no delivery fit in my van perfectly. Reading those reviews was the pits, I just went for it and bought it. It's perfect for us as we have another fridge in garage so only needed a little more freezer space. Good luck with your choice.

Thanks! Good to know. Is this the one you have? http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_...01&srccode=cii_17588969&cpncode=30-83620779-2

Yep that's it:thumbsup2 There's all these reviews saying how loud it is but I must be deaf cause ours only makes a very soft humming that you really have to listen for. I don't know what the heck those people are talking about. We keep ours in the basement. So far no issues but I know it's early. I didn't want anything too big because it seems like everything breaks after a while and I didn't want to lose a lot of food. As it is with this model I could fit the food in my other two freezers or coolers until I got a replacement or fixed. I like it and am glad we went with it instead of a chest.

I have a 1/2 size chest freezer, that held 1/2 a beef, so it holds a lot. But it is square shaped, instead of long. I found it...sheeze, I don't know how I found it, I can't remember. [this was before craigslist, before even owned a computer] But they were moving, and it was less than $100.00.

I know I have had it for 18 years and it has never broken down, or been serviced, it has been moved, six times in state, and 1 long haul move, from the North to the South where it lived outside for a year, and now has lived inside this last year.

I had to go look at what kind my is. It is a 5.4 cubic foot, Now don't laugh! Montgomery Wards Brand 2000 Signature!!!

They went out of business in '90's over a postal rate increase/postal worker revolt at having to carry 3 inch thick Montgomery Wards and Sears catalogs door to door/postman injures/causing "catalog stores" to tremble and loss precious business,[you ordered every thing from a hammer, to a house, to a cooking stove and your Sunday Dress and Shoes, Delivered to your home, or to the small town "catalog store" where you picked up your order.] It was a very real crisis. Montgomery Wards couldn't take it, they thought they were losing their Identity and they couldn't cope and went under, while Sears said hey, We will just go with that new thing, the Internet!! :surfweb: And they did and they saved them selves!!

Ok, history class is dismiss!! lol, lol!!:teacher:

This what my chest freezer looks like And this one is on sale for $169.59

We are military so we need one that will hold up to multiple moves.

I remember Montgomery Ward's! Good to know that one held up so well!
