Any good experience with Song Airline?

On our last two trips to FL, we have flown with Delta Express from New York's JFK directly to MCO. Back in March, 2003, I booked our flights for our August trip with Delta Express and now these flights are with Song Airlines (I believe the company changed names in April, 2003). I have read alot of negative posts about Song and I was wondering/hoping that someone out there had a good experience. If so, please let me know.

We have time on the way to FL if we get bumped to a later flight, but we do not want to have a problem after the cruise with a flight that is too early.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help alleviate my fears!

Kathy

Hi Kathy,

I'm curious to see if anyone has any positive feedback on Song as well. I have a thread going, "United or Delta???Now or Later???" going, because I'm unsure of booking with Delta even though it's cheaper because both legs of the flights I'm looking at are on Song. After some of the negatives I've heard, I'm very wary of booking with them, but not sure if I can wait for United to lower it's prices.

One of the last posters on my thread did say that Delta is shifting their focus back to customer service, which does help alleviate some of my fears, but I'm wondering if that shift will extend to Song.

I'll be sure to check your thread often to see if you've gotten any other info.

:)

Hi Dana:

I saw your thread and the negative comments on Song - that is why I started a separate thread hoping that someone here would post about a good experience with Song airlines.

We never had any problems with our direct flights on Delta Express from JFK to MCO, so I just assumed that we would have the same experience with Song. I thought it was simply a name change.

Hopefully someone out there will have something positive to say.

Thanks, Kathy

My FIL is flying from Ft. Myers to Boston tomorrow on Song. I'll post his thoughts/experience, either over the weekend or early next week.

That would be awesome!

Thanks. :) I've got my fingers crossed that it's a positive experience.

We flew on Song 6/27 from Boston to Orlando and then 7/5 back. On our flight back we were booked for 7:15 and then changed to 3:25 about a month before the trip. That made me a little nervous. I have to say though the flights were uneventful. They both left on time and arrived early. The seats are leather and there is more leg space now. We bought their food on the ride back and it was very good. For those traveling in the fall, the seats will have individual tv sets. They also passed out gameboys for the kids to use. The only bad thing was on the way back. We had assigned seats - when we went to check-in at Delta at the port - they were able to issue us boarding passes, but said we did not have the seats on our ticket "?" - we ended up separated with seats all over the plane - when we got to the airport gate my DH was first in line and was able to change them to all in a row. I am not quite sure what happened there.?. A good reason for flying Song is you can check your bags at the port. If you check your bags at the port and arrive within 6 hours of your flight they will also issue you boarding passes. Based on my experience I would fly with them again.

Thanks to all for your help! Thanks outahere-looking forward to your post and hope your FIL has a great trip!

Ursulas mom...I see you live on Long Island, curious as to why you don't go to Islip and fly Southwest. I always fly them and never have a problem and the airport is just great.

Hi Mjasp and fellow Long Islander!

I guess the reason why we end up at JFK is because my husband travels a lot for work and he is just so used to flying from JFK that we always end up there. Also, we are in Nassau County (Bayville), so I do not know if we would save alot of travel time going to Islip.

However, I have heard good things about Islip;s Airport (my cousin lives in Lake Grove and her mom flies to ISP from TPA all the time), so maybe I can talk my husband into trying that next time. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks Julma...

Sounds like your experience was good, but the flight change is what really makes me nervous. The best price I've found is flying in Saturday morning and flying out Saturday afternoon. I'm afraid they might change the flights to either arrive too late or leave too early.

I'll have to just talk with my friends and find out how much their budget can handle and maybe we can just fly in the day before and out the day after the cruise.

Thanks again.

I had enough Delta Miles for 3 tickets from BWI to MCO. Unfortunately, the only option was to fly from BWI to JFK on a RJ and then from JFK to MCO on Song. I am actually looking forward to trying them, with the TV's and all. I am not worried about being re-routed, because I have a Delta ticket overall, so I could be re-routed on and Delta flight if necessary. My worst worry is that my flight is in January and I have to be concerned about weather in Baltimore and New York. But I am flying in a day early so that should not be a problem.

My FIL flew Song from Ft. Myers, FL to Boston last Friday (7/11) and reported a very nice flight. The flight left on time and arrived a few minutes early. The plane had been refurbished and was very clean and comfortable and the decor was bright and upbeat. The ground staff and flight crew were friendly and responsive. He purchased a turkey sub sandwich, from their new menu, and said it was quite good (a little pricey at $9 though). It was a lunchtime flight and he did say that they were running out of food, so it might be a wise idea to bring some snacks of your own, just in case. They did board by "zone", which was new to him. Basically the plane is divided in half with zone 1 being the rear portion and zone 2 the forward.

All in all, he had a positive experience.

Ursula's Mom..... in your original post you expressed concern over them changing your flight times. I have found that anytime any of the airlines have changed my flight times, from what I originally booked, I have been able to change to a different flight (even on a different day) at no additional cost. One time I was changed from a non-stop to a connecting flight, and was able to get a complete refund (on a non-refundable ticket). I then booked a non-stop on another airline. I would just keep checking their schedule as you get closer to your dates.

I went ahead and booked flights with Song yesterday, I was afraid I'd lose out on the price, but am even more glad I did after your FIL's experience.

Thanks!

Thanks outahere for your report - glad all went well for your FIL!

Also, thanks for the advice on checking the flight times. I will keep checking as we get closer to August and I am hopeful that the times will not change.

In the past, when we flew Delta Express from JFK, the flight times did not change and the flights were fully booked or nearly so (so I guess there was no reason to cancel the early flight and re-book those passengers onto a later flight). It would be hard for us to change flights for our August trip because 9 of us are going to WDW and DCL for this vacation.

Thanks again! Kathy
