If you buy a voucher, the year starts when you redeem it for the actual pass (activate), which is usually first use.

The Disney Visa sometimes has promotions for double or triple points at the Disney Store. If you buy your pass at the Disney Store during one of these promotions, you can get bonus points.

If you buy at the Disney Store, I believe they give you the voucher there. Through the mail, I would allow at least 3 weeks. You can also buy over the phone and go to "will call" to pick it up.

No discounts that I am aware of.
