Any good counter service sushi places my friends should try on their upcoming trip? Thanks in advance!! :goodvibes

My DH likes the one at Yakitori house in Japan in Epcot. I don't do sushi but he gets it there everytime we go...I don't think its too expensive either maybe $8 or $9 for a tray or however it comes......

Thank you! Do you know if it's a counter service restaurant? My friend is vegetarian and was looking for some sushi counter service options... I'm with you and don't really like sushi!!

Yes, the restaurant in Japan that sells sushi is counter service - very much like a fast food place.

The Yakitori house doesn't really serve much sushi according to the menu at allearsnet - only a side order of "Tokyo sushi roll" which has avocado, cucumber, crabmeat and roe. We have eaten there lots of times and never noticed any real sushi options (which we would likely order as we love sushi). They mostly offer yakitori (skewered meat) with some tempura, soup, and salad options. We love this place - it is generally quiet and very out-of-the-way so most people don't even know it is there and sitting outside under the trees at night is lovely. We stop at least once if not more every trip!

Wolfgang Puck's in DTD has great sushi at a good price. It's not counter service but its close, because it's served only in the bar area. They don't even take ADR's for it. It's walk up only!

hmmm, thanks for the additional information. I'll be sure to pass this onto my friend.

The Matsunomo Lounge, while not CS, is relatively casual TS, and serves wonderful sushi.

If you plan on dining at the California Grille at the Contemporary Resort, they have sushi TO DIE FOR!!! Everyplace I have been in this country pales by comparison. If you're on the dining plan, most sushi selections qualify for the appetizer part. Trust me on this one!

Yakitori House has been mentioned already, but for a more satisfying sushi experience in Japan, try the Matsunoma upstairs over the department store. It offers a more extensive menu plus a wonderful view of Epcot. It's a lovely place to sit and cool down on a hot day.

Also worth visiting is Kimono's at the Swan.

If you've had decent sushi before, you won't be impressed with Yakitori's Tokyo roll. It's very much like your average california roll, only not as good. ;(

Wolfgang Pucks has good counter service sushi. I enjoyed it, the sushi was fresh and we were served pretty quick from what I remember.

The Yakitori house is a great place for a quick bite, but as others have said, not really a place for sushi. Also , they have been known to 'run out' of items later in the evening. The miso soup is also not that great, IMHO.

Another place to consider is the sushi place at the Swan. Not exactly quick service prices, but the sushi there was very good. You CAN usually just walk up to the sushi bar (Though I think it's pretty much only open in the evenings) for a sushi fix. I think it's open rather late too.

As far as the Contemporary, it is far from quick service prices overall, but you can sit in the bar area without a reservation (if it isn't full) and order some sushi. The sushi wasn't especially inexpensive, but the rolls were fairly large, as I recall, and the sushi seemed to be one of the better values on the menu from what I observed.

Wow, thanks everyone. My friend is on the dining plan and has already booked all of her table service credits. Therefore, she was hoping for a counter service restaurants that serves sushi. It looks like she'll have to pay out of pocket if she wants sushi then. Thanks again!! :sunny:
