Hey everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone out there would happen to know of a really good car insurance company. A friend of ours has a 2001 PT Cruiser that is paid off and we're trying to find her a decent insurance company. We called Geico, but they wanted around $1300 per 6 month period (she's older, about 40). Full coverage or PIP, we were just wondering if anyone out there might be able to help out!

Sounds pretty high, IMO. How is driving record, what is usage, and importantly, location? Not that I have recommendations, other than we have used Safeco for years, but those are the things that drive rates.

Older=40?? :eek:

older than me ;) i'm still a young'en! She lives in the Tampa are (riverview actually). The car is her every-day driver. It's just her elderly mother & her. Her record is pretty polished, sans one ticket from 4 years ago.

We use Safeco insurance. We have full coverage on both our vehicles. DH uses his van for his job. He had to carry extra insurance on it and I think it runs us about 155.00 a month for insurance. My DD has Geico and she hasn't been to happy with them. She doesn't like the fact that she can't pay the bill monthly.

We have had wondeful luckwith Allstate...some say it's pricey, maybe. But when we have a claim, we get really fast service! We in fact had an accident 2 weeks ago tomorrow (no one seriously hurt) - we came home and called the agent, he returned the call within 1/2 hr. and then the claims office called within 3 hours....this was late Sat. afternoon! We said we really needed it fixed ASAP and they did hurry it along. Just got it back today...would have been sooner if some things had been caught at the get go.

Hope that helps! Oh....we pay around 100.00 per month for 2 vehicles.

I use Farm Buera. You have to pay a fee to join, but the rates are great and the SERVICE.

Someone hit me and totaled a car on Monday morning. By noon I had a rental car, by Wednesday we settled! (The other driver had no insurance) and by Thursday I had checks!

Farm Buera, or farm bureau? Just wondering, I would like to check it out.

OPPS I can't type or spell LOL

Your Spelling is correct.

Basically you have to join your local branch in addition to the insurance. My membership fees are $25 a year and for this I get the thrilling Tennessee Farms magazine. LOL!

My insurance is about $800 a year and I have a fairly expensive car (Saab Convertible - one headlight cost the insurance company $700!)

We have Allstate. I think that our rates are definitely reasonable, and they give really good discounts for having our house and our cars both through them. They may cost a little more than some companies, but it's not much, and the service is excellent.

In the past we've had State Farm, Allstate and GEICO and now we're with Progressive. We love them. They have 24 hour claims service, give us a 20% discount if we pay our premium in full each year and give us an EXCELLENT rate. From what I understand, they check your credit and if you have a good credit rating they offer you a very good premium. Good luck!

Your friend must have a bad record or something? :confused:

We have ours under Allstate. My $30k 2003 car is around $550 for 6 months and DH's 2004 $28k truck is about $500 We have $300,000/100,000 coverage.
