Hi, I'm asking on behalf of a friend, not for me! I only wish...

When I booked my car through Alamo, Wayne pointed me in the direction of a deal and I paid around £200 for an intermediate SUV for 12 days. Does anyone know of any similar deals around at the moment?

Still not booked mine for August yet.

What dates are they wanting?

I keep checking daily as although I have booked Alamo I am happy to cancel and re book. At the moment they are getting more expensive on Alamo but I've seen that change.

I'm in the travel industry and use my airline's version of this link. Obviously it states that you need to bring your travel industry related ID with you but I've NEVER been asked for it. I don't think the reps on the desks are that bothered about it, they're more interested in up-selling you to a bigger vehicle.

Maybe worth a go, have a look at the Gold options

Thanks everyone - my friend travels in 5 weeks, so it's getting very close.:)

Many thanks Embraer for posting that link:thumbsup2, prices look very good, £111 for an Intermediate SUV or £137 with the Gold package.

As for the travel industry related ID, what exactly would that be, your works ID pass with a photo?

And would there be any identification numbers, codes, etc on your pass which is recognised world-wide which they would look for?
:car:

I've always taken my Manchester Airport ID but have never been asked for it. I'm not entirely sure what would happen if you were asked for some sort of ID if you didn't have one, I'd call their bluff and say you'll go elsewhere if they deny you the rate, I'm sure they'd rather have your business on the day than somebody else getting it.

There's nothing universal on my ID, it's simply a Manchester Airport pass that we all have to wear onsite

As I said I've used Alamo on this rate maybe 10 times in Atlanta and Orlando International and the desk staff (without being unkind, they aren't the sharpest) have never been bothered about where the rate I had came from, they just wanted to take my money :)

Thanks for posting Embraer, some good prices thru that link(although some are cheaper elsewhere) unfortunatley for my dates no 7 seater minivan showing or I might have been tempted to give it a try.

Thanks for the update Embraer, might be able to use my OAP bus pass as that's a travel related ID card :rotfl:

Enjoy your holiday and cruise

Wow, the link showed me exactly the same cars as previous searches for about £60 less for the period I'm after. Might see if DH wants to give it a go and bring his high speed rail pass with him as id!

Lolainkent you can't be all that far away from me...wonder if my network rail ID would suffice?

I'm in Folkestone, whereabouts are you? DH's high speed pass is photo issue so looks pretty official - I imagine network rail cards do to? We're both very tempted to try it out!

Saw a car hire add for 50% discount for car hire with tickets with Undercover tourist- didn't look into it as we have got our cars (got an additional one free with free insurance on a virgin fly drive - local thomas cook added it free - 7 seater/ SUV- if we booked with them as it was for 9 people :cool1:- saved £440)- but it might be worth a look if you also need tickets.

That sounds good - is it open to UK customers?

I flit between Canterbury and Maidstone, so not too far!

How funny, such a small world! We're in Canterbury this weekend for DS's birthday party, wrote my Life in the UK exam in Maidstone late last year (I'm Canadian). I love Kent, such a lovely place!
