my kids are 8, 6, 6, and I am trying to think of something small that would give them a giggle tomorrow. last year I put a plastic snake in my eldest's lunchbox and he is still cracking up about it. I don't want to do the same thing, so need to come up with something. he talks a ton about it and is all excited about april fools day so I don't want to disappoint him!

any suggestions?

Ummm, could you put something fun in their lunch (as in edible)?

Maybe gummy worms in their sandwich, or crackers as a base instead of bread, that sort of thing?

It's nice to have April Fool's jokes that aren't mean spirited. So many are.

You could start a little tradition of doing something to their lunches on each April Fools. :teeth:

this year it falls on a Saturday, i think waking up and tricking them into thinking they have school would be hilarious :)

mmm...is this an early April Fool's trick? My calendar says that April Fool's Day in 2010 falls on Thursday....

My mom put string or dental floss in pancakes that she made for my brother, sister and I one year. Yes I know, she was weird.

I made a meatloaf and "frosted" it with mashed potatos and told them that we were having cake for dinner!

When my niece was 9 I did an April fools trick by wrapping a rubber band around the sprayer on our kitchen sink, and then put it back in the holder facing out. Then I told her to wash her hands and come have a snack. So when she turned the faucet on she got sprayed with the sprayer. She thought it was really funny. (back then I was the cool aunt, but now that she is 16 I think I've lost that status. :rotfl:)

Rubber band around the sprayer on the sink pointed so it sprays them when they turn on the water. You could put somthing to soak in the bathroom sink, and tell them to brush their teeth in the kitchen. That way they would still be in their PJs and not get their clothes wet.

Its an oldie but a goodie

I see you live in MA.
Your kids are sort of young for this,
but we had a ton of snow one year, and my 16 year old shoveled snow for our church and his young brother 11 helped him before school.
On April's Fool's day, I walked in their room and said,
"hey it snowed out last nite, you both have to get up and shovel".
Both got up, and put all their winter clothes, boots etc., and walked
outside and it finally dawned on them, there was no snow.
The look on their faces was priceless.
They thought I was loosing it, until I said, "April Fools".

Half fill a cereal bowl with milk and add some cheerios. Add a spoon and put the whole thing in the freezer. In the morning, right before you call them in for breakfast, add a little more milk to the bowl to make it look more realistic.

This is what I was going to suggest! Safe, fun, hilarious!

Take something they use a lot from their room and put it in a silly place...like their tv in the bathroom or their DS game in the refrigerator. Then pretend you have no clue how it got there.

Last year I put out a black coffee mug for my DD7's milk at breakfast. I added 2 drops of green food coloring to the mug (which couldn't easily be seen since the mug was dark). When she poured her milk it turned green. I still remembered that shocked look on her face as she tried to figure out what was happening.

She still talks about it and is wondering what I have planned for this year. I believe it might be the plastic snake in the lunchbox.... :lmao:

these are great, thanks!!!!! keep 'em coming. :) :) :)

Stuff newspaper in the toes of their sneakers. Or stuff the sleeves of their jackets with newspapers. Always a knee-slapper!:rotfl:

I'm in MA too and in 5th grade I told my classmates it was snowing.... our classroom had windows all along one side and it was bright and sunny out.... they believed me. :confused3 :lmao:

I love April Fools Day! Some of my favorite tricks to pull on my kids include painting their fingernails and toes while they are sleeping (yes, the boys and my husband too!). I have also drawn curly ended mustaches on their faces with an eyeliner while they are sleeping.
