I just found out that the house I put in offer in on has been accepted, provided the seller complies with a few thingsper the seller's bank (its a short sale).

Part of the reason why we're moving from my current house is we have "visitors" that basically haven't done any harm, but scare the bejesus out of everyone, me, kids, babysitter(s) and ex-boyfriend-although he deserved it:rotfl:

So, I'm on-line looking at photos of my new to be house and I see it.......The "opaque ball" which I hear is often associated with paranormal activity. Seriously!!!!!

No, I'm not crazy or paranoid normally, but if anyone out there has anything to add about these white balls, I'm off to investigate further.

I am by no means an expert. I have heard the same thing about the orbs. I can tell you the my niece 'sees' things that the rest of us can't. And they talk to her. She has done this since she was around 2. She saw our deceased aunt in a closet. Our aunt passed away when niece was only 8 months old. There is no way she could remember her. But she can tell you exactly what she looks like and what she was buried in. Kind of creepy. Anyway, there is not a single picture of her that does not have those orbs in them unless my sister photoshops them out.

I have also lived with a visitor. He would walk my back stairs and you would catch a glimpse of his shoes and pants (never the whole body) out of the corner of you eye. Thought I was going crazy but I am not the only one that saw it. He would open my pantry when I wasn't home and I once watched a drawer open on its own. I am OK with ghosts as long as they are friendly and don't bother me too much. I used to yell at him to leave my pantry alone. It bugged me. He never did listen. :rotfl:

Thanks for that. The things that we all see, smoke and feel are freaky! Luckily nothing (yet) has opened, closed although we have had lights fall from the ceiling when no one was in the room, heck, that's happened twice! Yikes. My two sons both are scared of one upstairs closet. It's a tiny, new closest, well lit, etc. When DS11 was about 5 he woke up screaming about "Snizel Dizel" in his closet. This happened on X-mas eve and we've never let him live it down. My that ds5 has come along (he wasn't even alive during Snizel Dizel, ds5 has that bedroom with the closet and he's terrified of it!! Tells me he sees things in it!

The list goes on and on. But the orb thing is scary!!

While some people associate orbs with ghosts, most credible paranormal investigators dismiss them. They could be just about anything, but a "ghost hunter" looks for more, like something to distinguish it as not being dust or a bug or something natural. Google T.A.P.S. and e-mail the photo to them to see what they think.

Well, from what I understand, there are different "types" of spirits. Some spirits are associated with things like homes. And some are (you might not want to hear this...) just around you. So those might be likely to go where you go. But the good news about those is that they're usually helpful to you, or care about you in some way. Meaning the spirits of deceased loved ones, or guardian angles, etc. Usually nothing to be fearful of. Plus, you can be firm with them and tell them to go away if they're bothering you. Fearing them makes them stronger.

I don't know which type your closet ghosts are.

Orbs? Yes, they can be associated with paranormal activity, but not necessarily. Most will say that it's just dust in the air or on the camera lens. I have seen examples of orbs in pictures that were pretty compellingly suggestive of spiritual activity. I don't know about your home pic.

Maybe they're following you! :scared1:

j/k

Looking forward to reading some good ghost stories. popcorn::

Could be a coincidence, how old is the New house? Do you know it' s history? Maybe, they are drawn to you.

I know my DF is around me. He didn't pass away in the house, but I told him the last day he was alive-and he knew it was his last day- he could come check on us, just as long to scare us.

On certain holidays, I have had things happen. I dream about him when I am feeling stressed and it is always the same type dream: somehow a storm, hurricane is coming: he is alive, well he looks alive and he helps me through it and he talks to me then when the storm passes, he is gone.

WHen I was young, my DGF passed away in the house, they revived him-emt's- and he was taken into hospital where he lived for a couple days, then passed away again. When I would go over to see my grandmother, I always felt him there. Nothing scary. he wore Old Spice and every once in awhile, I would get a wiff of it. or his chair, i felt as if he was still sitting in it.

Not a paramormal expert, but there are 2 common causes for those orb looking spots in photos.

The first is dust on the lens. The other is too little light in the area being photographed.

I had a photo that I took during a Ghost tour. I got all excited when I saw the orb...till I found out that it was because I was standing in an area with better light behind me, shooting into a darker doorway. Oh well.

Edited to add, that while some orbs are supposed to be spirits, most of those balls you see in photos are one of the above 2 things.

Can you post the pics? I want to see what you're talking about.

I don't have any ghost stories, although i think I would be freaked out by it.

most often orbs are caused by flash reflecting off of dust particles in the air

I have a number of paranormal pics, but they're too spooky to post on the DIS...

Most orbs are dust reflecting off the lens of the camera.

That said, I bought a quilt several years ago, a gated flower garden that was very well made and carefully crafted. It was obviously made of flour sack/feed sack materials and the quilting was 10 - 12 stitches to the inch (for those of you who know old quilts).

I bought it at, believe it or not, a yard sale. When I was driving home from the yard sale, I thought to myself, "so it was made by a young doctor's wife in the 30's and they lived out in the country, north of town." I thought, well maybe I should see if I can find her name. Then I realized, uhm, wait. How did I KNOW that? The person selling me the quilty didn't know anything about it.

But I did know it. In fact, I could almost, but not quite see her house (I knew she had an itsy picket fence that you could just about step over and that the road in front of their house was dirt.)

Anyway, I thought it was odd and dismissed it. I took a picture of the quilt for insurance purposes and there was a round white orb, a little translucent, but very pearly, hovering over the quilt. That particular camera never took another "orby" photo like that before or after. Just that one shot. And the orb doesn't look like the "dust" orbs I've seen.

Was it a ghost? I don't know. I prefer to think that the quilt maker just put so much of herself into the quilt (gated flower gardens take a LONG time to make) that her thoughts sort of "imprinted" on the quilt at the time she made it.

I can pm the pic of the room, but I'm another dis'er who doesn't know how to upload photos here? WHy is it so darn hard? I also don't know how to upload to....whatever program-lost the name-of the program.

ANyway, the orb is in a photo of the house I'm moving into.

The house I live is in about 150 years old. The prior owner was born in my bedroom. She lived in the house her entire life and raised her family here. Her daughter lives a few doors down. Anyway, for one of my "stories". I'm pretty sure I've posted it here, before but here goes:

Whenever I do any type of re-model, painting, etc. and sometimes for no reason the house will smell of cigar/pipe smoke. I've smelled it, kids have smelled it, babysitter and friends have all smelled it. One day babysitter was watching the kids and ordered pizza. The pizza girl commented to babysitter "Oh, his was (can't remember name) house. I used to sit out on the front steps and smoke a cigar with him. My babysitter called me hysterical because she has seen, smelled and felt the visitor.

Once I unpack I have a ghost photo taken at an abandoned hotel in North Conway, NH that I'll post.

Photobucket is just about the easiest. I even created a photo just for this.

Photobucket already gives you the full code, so you don't have to do anything in your message other than copy and paste the link.

Orbs can also be early manifestations of a spirit. They might not have enough energy for a full-bodied apparition so all you see is the orb.

We have a ghost in our house. She keeps taking my make-up. Well, at least I think it's a she - I suppose it could be a transvestite. Is there such a thing as a transvestite ghost? Anyway, I had to go to Sephora yesterday and buy another UD Primer Potion because the darn ghost once again went rifling through my makeup drawer and took my primer potion back to the 4th dimension or wherever it is that ghosts keep their stolen goods. This is really starting to get annoying.

He never did listen. :rotfl:
You mean men are like this even after they die? :scared1:

You wouldn't happen to have a teenaged daughter in the house, would you? ;)
