I know I used to be able to use the machines at Chevy Chase bank - they now only allow account holders to use the machines free. TD Bank also used to allow non-account holders to use their machine - but seems as of Nov they are charging non-account holders.

Anyone know of any FREE machines left? I am not a member of a credit union and my bank is fairly small and does not have a machine. Just trying to avoid rolling them all. TIA :cool1:

I think sometimes coinstar doesn't charge if you buy certain gift cards... but I have my kids accounts at TD bank so it's free for me. They actually offer a great kids account service; my kids get $10 for free for their summer reading program.

How about opening a small savings account (put it in your child's name with you as guardian, if you do that most banks make the account free with no fees and no minimum). Keep a small amount of $ in the account and then when you have coins, take them to the bank, deposit in the account if they require it to be deposited, otherwise just have them run it thru the counter.

The other option is to use the coinstar machine and get some gift card (then there is no fee). I get amazon gift cards and order stuff that I would have normally ordered anyway.

TD Bank (formerly Commerce Bank) still has free coin counting machines here in New Jersey.

PNC bank has coin cointing machines at some of their branches here in NJ, but again, I think they are for customers only.

Our Food Lion has a free coin counting machine! My ds6 got very excited when he saw a money machine with the word FREE on it! He was certain it meant free money.

BB&T has free coin counting machines that anyone can use. I know they are as far north as West Virginia, but I don't know if they are in Maryland.

Food Lion/Bottom Dollar Food is moving to our area, so I'm playing devils' advocate because I don't know the answer...does this machine count the coins for free and then you are charged a fee to collect the amount in bills from the customer service desk?

I don't know why you would expect a bank to give you a service for free. If you are using their services you should be an account holder. Open a small account and then you'll be all set.

Agree with the others that say use coinstar and get a gift certificate. One option is to get the CVS Pharmacy gift card and then use that gift card to buy any of the endless gift cards available at CVS.

You might not be able to do that. Not all places allow you to buy gift cards with gift cards.

If it is something you do a lot I would just open a small savings account at TD so you can do it for free there.
