Any experience with a newborn cluster feeding?

I just gotta say, I think it's NUTS to think that breastmilk is deficient in anything for your baby.

I mean, c'mon, our diets are better than they've ever been during the millions of years of evolution we've been through. If my breastmilk didn't contain iron, then Im willing to bet that there's a darn good reason.

It's the product of millions of generations of evolution! Fine tuned! Not made in a vat! I mean, doctors didn't even know what vitamins WERE until about 100 years ago-how much smarter can they be than god/mothernature/evolution (take your pick)

Off my box, back into my hole...

I'm in total agreement with you! :) As for vitamin D, *most* of us in the US can get enough easily with just a little sunlight every day.

I agree but isn't it important to keep babies under 6 months (too young for sunscreen) out of sun??

The baby doesn't have to be in the sun. :) The breastmilk will contain proper amounts of vitamin D as the mother gets a healthy amount of sun (which can be more or less depending on the person and the location, of course). Foods containing vitamin D can contribute as well.

It sounds like your baby is doing beautifully and gaining so well! Great job :)
I know it's tough in the beginning, and one of my babies nursed what seemed like constantly.. but it's all to regulate your supply. I'd be really hesitant to interfere with that process of supply & demand.
I'm shocked that the ped. wanted you to supplement with formula, as it seems that your baby is doing beautifully and you're producing plenty of milk!
And I have to agree with pps.. breastmilk is not deficient in anything. It's the perfect food for your baby.

(OP- I know you didn't want this debated, but the advice is just so.. odd? That it's not at all what most peds would recommend. I think some of us just wanted to point out that this is a questionable recommendation- in case there were others wondering about it).
