Any DVC member ever been crime victim at DVC?

I have heard about strollers getting stolen all the time. We bring our own stroller and I tend to carry around a lot of stuff. I keep a bag underneath the stroller with all the things that wouldn't ruin our trip if it was stolen, like juice boxes, jackets, etc. In my fanny pack I keep my daughter's medicine, money, IDs, etc. We always take our camera and camcorder with us into rides. I also have learned that once a roll of film is finished I put it in my fanny pack, not the stroller bag.

One gross tip - get a disposable diaper (clean of course, LOL) and wrap it up like it is used. Then whenever you leave your stroller place it on top. Works like a charm. ;)

I'm surprised there aren't more fights in WDW. People get very irritable when it is crowded and hot, not to mention they are tired. I had one woman who I thought was gonna beat me up in Country Bear Jamboree cause my youngest started crying during the finale scene. Amazing the anger this woman was sporting! YIKES!

I once had bought one of those princess hats for my daughter (the tall cone ones) and she dropped it a few minutes after we bought it right by Small World. Before we could even turn around to pick it up a woman grabbed it for her daughter and they walked off quickly. Amazing...

when we first owned DVC (OKW) there was not even a security guard at the entrance - then CBR got some people who kept breaking into the rooms - so they got a security guard - then DL/PO - now PO - then the other resorts.

back when no security guard - my brother left his van open and back door to the van open - they left on the bus - he came back and just knew he was robbed - but nothing was missing - since then he has been more carefully...

for those of you - who have lose things at the pool - if it is a hat - then make sure your towels are on top of it - and yes some people will say that it crushes the hat - well it doesn't mind - so if you would rather lose it than maybe crush it - it is your choice.

I bring a water wallet -

for my key, one credit card, and all the cash.

You can probably find one cheap at Walmart - just make sure that it is a water wallet - so your cash won't get wet.

I can't read by the pool - my skin doesn't like the sun - so I either read in my room, or the lobby (WL/VWL, BCV, BWV - are very nice for this) (OKW has a library). I haven't had a problem. Besides I need the air-conditioning.......

We were at the wishing well last July in MK waiting for a special pixie to start a 20th Anniversary surprise for my hubbie that I had arranged. She was late, he got antsy and we went back up the hill to the carousel. My 13 yr old discovered in horror that she had left her pin bag on the bench and we went back 2 mins later only to find it "gone". We had everyone including security and the pixies looking for it for an hour, but it never turned up. She lost about $400 in pins with the bags. I was extremely disappointed that someone hadn't turned it in by the time we left 5 days later. I replaced my daughter's bag and the pins the day before we left. I couldn't have that be her memory of an otherwise wonderful trip. Needless to say - the pin bags will not be joining us in the parks next week.

About 6 years ago we had a family wedding at Disney... Bus number 2 picks up the bride and groom about 12 kids several infants. 30 adults all family... He starts to drive around and around. Then he leaves the property... Half an hour later we are out past some outlet malls. We end up in some Orange groves... He goes off the road, blows a middle tire... The bride and groom are now missing from thier own party we are an hour late and 45 min away.

I think we have the winner of the DVC crime victim contest.

The problem at CBR was actually accusations being made by a group of "grifters" out to get money from WDW. They attempted to run a scam against WDW with all kinds of claims, including a rape at CBR. Eventually it was sorted out and the family of grifters arrested. Just the fact that these type of people were staying at CBR (and what's to stop anyone who has the money from staying at any of the resorts?) is an indication that there are people up to no good wherever tourists are to be found.

Disney has excellent security measures in place but everyone has to take personal responsibility as well.

Twinmomplus2~

I just had to say--WOW-how scared you all must have been! I don't blame you one bit about the bus situation. You know, there was a movie with Angelina Jolie and Denzel Washington(Bone Collector, I think?) where this cabbie picks up this couple at the airport and doesn't take them to their destination(he hijacks them)--and that always scares me to death when we go somewhere and have to let someone else drive us somewhere(like a cab-we are from a small town so don't use cabs regularly).

Anyway...I hope you all had a wonderful celebration after that...though you all must have been terribly shaken! I also hope Disney compensated you VERY well!

twinmomplus2,

OH MY GOD! You had me almost to tears. I can't imagine how awful that must have been.

I'm shocked.

There was never any discussion regarding any compensation. I would have to think, by all rights they should have at least eaten the tab for the Luau. For goodness sakes the bride and groom were not there for the first 2 hours!
AS for being scred at first it was an annoyance only because apparently FIL is a big practical joker and they thought this was the ultimate topper. We were annoyed that he was taking it to far. The anger/fear thing came in when we wound up off the road at the grove, Once that babys head hit the glass there was no longer any tolerance left. she did not get cut or anything but, she sure got whacked in the head.
a few days after the incident we were at the pool and a CM came over to initiate the kids in a scavenger hunt, and asked me, where you guys REALLY in Okeecochobee? I said yes, I am surprised you heard about it, and he indicated that he had but wasn't supposed to ask about it.

On a lighter note when we first were on the bus my cousin had her video camera out and was filmong us nad the scenery on the bus. We had not watched it and about a year later at a family reunion she put it on, and we watched it part of the tape the inside bus part, shows were we stopped at that 7-11. And directly across the street from the 7-11 is a very run down shack type of house and the people in the house are waving and yelling at us what ya doing here?????I have to tell you we were laughing so hard as we watched it.

:hyper:

We did buy into DVC that trip, the wedding reception was at Atlantic Dance hall. and my brother bought his DVC during the reception;) from the Boardwalk office. Of course he was not on the crazy bus he was at the Grand floridian so he was with most of the grooms family none of whom save for the groom were with us. They were all at the Gf, while the bride and groom where in a garden suite at the Boardwalk.

I have not personally been a victim of crime at WDW. My sister-in-law and her family, however, had their van broken into at the Tree Houses (at Ft. Wilderness?) in 1990. A television, vcr and tapes were stolen from the van. They had to have the broken window fixed also.

While checking in at GF a few years ago I spoke with a woman who had her overnight bag containing an expensive camera, film, prescription drugs and cash stolen in the lobby while she was trying to check in. She warned us to keep an eye on our luggage at all times. If we bring in our own luggage we have one adult and the children stay with the bags while the other adult checks in. I am one of those who don't feel that the whole family is needed in the check-in line.

Last December I left an expensive camera in the ladies room at the front of EPCOT. I got it back within 2 hours! Some wonderful guest had found it and turned it in at the store next to the restrooms. If you are out there, THANK YOU!

Twinmomplus2new, great things come from odd events at times - so the trip you bought DVC is the trip that the Disney Bus Service Driver misdirected you and the party....

What an event - thanks for sharing

cheers

That is SOOO funny!!! I can just "hear" the grumblings over at the debate board about trashy people who leave dirty diapers in their strollers all day (I'm sure it will include the "stink" they cause)!!

I'm definitely doing it!!!!

NEVER! I have not been victimized by purchasing a DVC contract. I have always rented DVC points at reduced prices from the poor victims of DVC membership.

We have not been as lucky as some. This past summer, my son's bag with his Game Boy Advance and 8 games was stolen from Vero Beach at the pool side. The cost of what we lost was difficult but the worst part was that in the bag along with the Game Boy stuff was a stamped penny collection book. NOt just any stamped penny collection book, but his special one, which contained his pennies and his two sister's pennies which they had given him being they are no longer into the penny thing. They had collected them for YEARS. There were a lot of memories in that little book! Tough lesson for him. I also had my daughter's backpack stolen from a bathroom door in MGM in 96 and back in 90, my wallet was stolen from my pocketbook in the Grosvenor Hotel. That wouldn't have been a big deal but my engagement ring was in there! I have blocked that one out of my mind. So, although I do consider WDW a safe place overall, my experiences have shown that it's not crime free.

Just returned from BWV .While in MGM i had a conversation with a cm who arranges the strollers. He told me that there are several reasons why they move.one is to make room, but they also move some around so that if someone is watching a particular unattended stroller with packages. It is moved to prevent theft. He said that it is not uncommon for items to be stolen from parked strollers.
This is prevelant at shows where the would be thief knows that he has a set amount of time to operate

Okay, I've never told anyone this story, outside of immediate family and a few close friends...but the recent Tigger incident has prompted me to share.

DH and I honeymooned in WDW in 1998. During that time, I had my picture taken with Pluto. And when I hugged Pluto (DH took the picture) his hand ended up in a funny place.

More precisely, Pluto got a handful of my behind and held on, albeit briefly. It was sort of hectic, people all over, and I was so happy to be there...at first I thought maybe Pluto just didn't realize where he had grabbed me. I mean, those costumes are big, and for Pete's sake, it's WDW. Who would do that, right?

I sort of argued with myself at the time, but couldn't shake the feeling that it was on purpose. You know, a GRAB as opposed to an accidental slip of the hand.

I told DH later, who was less than thrilled, but we decided to just let it drop.

Weird, though. Never thought anything like that would happen at WDW.

We've not been the victim of cirme at WDW, but while on the Dusney cruise on St Maarteen day, we rented a car and were exploring the French side when we interupted a robbery!!!
We rescued a grandmom and baby from the robbers, but we had to leave the rest of the family behind...
It was a very scary moment..

Not a victim of a crime myself but I do know of someone who had several hundred dollars stolen...while they were in the room. I think it was OKW.

I'm glad this thread was started because I see too many instances of people on these boards blinded by pixie dust.
