Any disadvantages to transferring points between contracts?

We have three OKW contracts with different use years; two are resales prior to any changes.

We are planning a large family trip next summer for 10 days in a GV. I'm planning to transfer points from my Feb use year contract to my June use year contract. I'd like one continuous reservation without checking in and out and also want to be able to add day 8, 9 and 10 day by day.

If, for whatever reason, we don't use all of the transferred points, are there any disadvantages to the transferred points?

I know they retain their use year and that they can be banked. Am I missing any negatives?

Thank you!

There are reports you won’t be able to use them online in the 11 month priority period without calling.

Also, be aware that the system has to use your own points, including any banked or borrowed points you have first, before it will allow you to use the transferred points.

Those are the only drawbacks I can think of…well, other than the long time on hold with MS to accomplish it!

Those are biggies and I was not aware of those rules. Thanks!

Are you planning to stay at OKW? Depending on when you are going you can book the room now. Most of June in a 3br at OKW is sold out already.

One thing I’ve done to help with the first issue:

I’ve been able to make a reservation for at least 1-2 nights with that current contract’s points first (to secure the reservation), before calling into MS to add more nights (using the transferred contract’s points).

The 2nd issue @Sandisw mentioned, I saw as a complete non-issue. So much so, that I forgot about it!! I knew exactly how many points I needed, transferred them, used the above workaround to secure my hard-to-get-res for 2022, and all was well for months. However!!! I ended up canceling one night of a different trip in 2021 & I went and banked those points before making sure everything was situated with my 2022 trip… oh man… huge mistake! I went in later, and merely changed names on my 2022 res… which modified it, which meant it pulled those banked points in to be used & left some of my transferred points unused. I was sickened!! I was able to get it fixed, but it was an ordeal!! Just be careful.

That 2nd point may never be a big deal to you, since yours are all OKW points… but it can be a bigger deal when mixing different types of points, like mine were (diff resorts plus diff restrictions). Just stay aware & you’ll be fine 😉
