My dad wants to get all the grand girls 7inch tablets that have a ereader on it. I saw on Amazon I can get a off brand for around 85 and it has the droid system in it .... how are they?

I just bought one online last week at Walmart.com for XMas it was Android compatable and about $89.00.

I know a lot of people that are really happy with a nook color running cyanogen mod 7. I haven't used one with the stock flash.

I am looking at the Acer Iconia a100 for my 12 year old. It has a dual core processor...1gb of RAM...and Best Buy has it on their Black Friday sale for $189. I hoping to find it for around $200 online.

It runs Android 3.2 (Honeycomb) operating system which is supposed to be way better than the old 2.x operating systems on the older / cheaper tablets. Honeycomb was actually made for tablets...where the older 2.x operating systems were just mobile phone operating systems adapted for tablets. Honeycomb is supposed to be much smoother.

Be careful...Acer also makes a 10" Iconia tablet (A500) that is about $100 more than the 7".

BTW...Android is working on it's next operating system (4.0) called ice cream sandwich and the next set of tablets (next year) will be rocking quad core processors.

Speed :teleport:

do you have a link?

I just looked and the one I bought is sold out. It's: Pandigital 7" Color Touchscreen 2GB Tablet PC Featuring Android Operating System. They have other ones that are reasonably priced. Groupon also had one on it's groponicus deals for $89.00 with a case.

I looked at the specs and 189 is a smoking deal for that thing. It looks like there will only be 4 per store so they will mostly go to the black friday campers.

I would go with Amazon Fire for 7 inch tablet for that age. Of course cheap tablet and root thing to honeycomb

Big Lots has one in their ad for tomorrow for a 2 GB Pandigital tablet for 67 dollars... Not sure if it is good or not, but it is cheap.

Just a word of caution on getting an "off" brand, research the brand first because many times when you go to buy and off brand product they won't be around to help you if something happens to the product and you have to get it repaired under warranty.

Take this for what it's worth, as I've posted this same info several times on other threads, but with any of the ~$100 7" tablets, they're basically all using a resistive screen. (Less responsive than a capacitive screen) For very basic eReader functionality and web browsing, watching a movie, etc, that should be fine. If you plan to download Android apps... games in particular... you'll likely be disappointed.

$200 is about the lowest you're going to find for a decent 7" tablet.

^^That^^

I bought one of the cheap Pandigital tablets, and took it back for a refund. You practically had to punch the touch screen to make it work.

The Kindle Fire is very nice, and the touch screen works just as well as my iPad. They are $199 at Amazon, or you can buy them locally if you don't mind paying sales tax.

is the kindle fire too much tablet if we just want to use it for apps and browsing the internet?
