Any Consumer Cellular Customers here?

How is the coverage and how is the customer service? Is it as good as everyone says?

We have Verizon, unlimited talk and text and 2 GB shared data. As we are traveling more now in retirement, we need to bump up our data. We really could do well with 3 gb shared, but with Consumer it appears we can get 5 or even 10 gb shared for less than 3 gb with Verizon. Our biggest data usage if Google Maps while driving.

How much are you paying? We get many ads for the T-Mobile 55+ service. 2 lines with unlimited data for $30 a month per line. Not a bad deal.

I had Consumer Cellular a long time ago. It was fine back then.

I changed to AT&T pre-pay a few years ago. I have 2 lines with unlimited talk/text plus 8GB data each and roll-over data. I pay $70 per month for both lines and I use AT&T gift cards to pay for them. If I have GCs to pay for the whole thing, I don't get charged taxes or additional fees. The GCs, here in Wisconsin, are not taxed either and I usually buy them at a discount (at least 5% off at Target). AT&T has other pre-paid plans too.

Do a little research about "throttling" where the major cell phone companies lower the bandwidth for their 3rd party companies on their towers. For instance, AT&T used to (and maybe still does) throttle Cricket while they did not on their own pre-pay plan.

We've had CC for 2 years. No problems when travelling. We have 2 lines for less than $35 total. (Includes AARP discount) Customer service is great. The best feature is you can bump up the data each month if needed and pay the difference for that month if your data usage is high. Then, next month you can go back to the lowest option.

$98 a month for two lines.

Yes, we have had to bump up data twice in the past 18 months. I am looking to pay less without having to bump up anymore.

Comparisons probably depend on where you live and how many other things you do with your phone. If you use it mostly as a telephone, coverage is the main thing as having a phone with lots of dead zones, getting cut off or not being able to connect makes it worthless. I assume those using lots of bandwidth are likely doing more than just talking on their phone and need to price out the features appropriate for how they intend to use it.

My Virus software keeps flagging your link as an "unsafe site"

Have you looked into T-Mobile? I think they have $30/line for senior citizens, unlimited talk, text and data (but the data can be throttled).

To be honest, comparison shopping can be tough because few carriers......other than Consumer Cellular.......post a clear price list. My daughter had T-Mobile and had no issues. But she is prone to switch carriers at the drop of a hat. She had Google Fi before that, and Verizon before that.

We have Verizon and Tracfone for our household.
Tracfone flip phones for the older people in our family that only use it for emergencies so the 1 year, 1000 minutes plan is good enough for them.
Verizon for the household that uses the phone more. it is expensive, but we find it doesn't drop calls.
AT&T for work phones (provided by company, I barely get any service other than internet on the phone at the three locations I'm at most of the time so other than using it at work, it's not used much)...

My parents have it. I don't know what they pay, but I do know the customer service it top notch. My dad is 72 and so not techie. He has had to call several times when his phone was acting up and he has raved about how patient the customer service reps are.
