Any Charleston, SC Budget tips??

Stay in North Charleston, West Ashley, Mt Pleasant, or anywhere around because they are cheaper than downtown....and go to Ye Old Fashion Ice Cream Shop.....ITS amazing!!!!

I have actually stayed at both places, I like the Embassy better. Everyone has had great ideas for you. We live in Beaufort and have family that live in Charleston, we get up there every chance we get, my sons are 7 and 9 and they love just hanging out downtown, there really is a lot to see and do. My cousins that live in Charleston (who are 9 and 13) like to go to Frankies Fun Park in North Charleston, it has go-karts, mini-golf, a rock climbing wall, arcade etc.

I sure wish I had seen this thread a week ago! I just got back from Charleston last night. I was there on business, so only had time to walk around the waterfront downtown and treated myself to dinner at Plantation Grill. But I'll be going back, so it's good to know some things to do when I have a few hours to kill.

There seems to be several different companies that do the carriage rides/tours. Are they all comparable in price? Any better than others?

Jacksmom, I see you are from Mooresville...it's our favorite place to stop on our way south to see family in Charlotte and HHI. The Hampton Inn there is our favorite!

Good pair of walking shoes. there is a good bbq place downtown in the shoping district cannt remember the name, but man I would love to get more of their blackened catfish so good..... we talked about moving there after retirement loved it so much..

We LOVE Charleston!! That is where DH and I honeymooned.

It really was a toss up this year of doing Disney again or going to Charleston. DH, DS (6) and I have all gotten the Disney bug and haven't been to Charleston since 2004.

I second Tommy Condons! It is AWESOME!

Okay...what to do and see if you are only going for day trip? We are going to Disney's HHI resort the last week in March and thought this time we would try a day trip to Charleston! We did Savannah last time. It will be 4 adults and 3 kids, ages 10 and 8.

Would love some suggestions for lunch and tours. I did order the visitors guide book which came this week and can't wait to read through it!!!

We'll just miss you. We check in there April 3.

On another visit to HHI, we visited Charleston for the day, but we thought it was a bit far to go and return and still have adequate time to enjoy the city. We are thinking of stopping there a couple of nights on the way to HHI this time.
