Any borrowing restrictions?

This may be a silly question, but I have no fear of being silly!

I understand that points have to be banked by the 8-month deadline, but is there anything similar about borrowing? If my UY is Feb, and I want to take a last minute trip the month before (assuming a room is available, of course), can I borrow points in January?

Also, do points get borrowed when the reservation is made, or when the trip actually occurs? In other words, do I actually have to have the points transferred into the current use year to make a reservation?

yes, you can borrow at the last minute to stay at a DVC resort in january.

you borrow pts when the reservation is made. if you call back in 20 minutes and cancel, the borrowed pts remain in the new use year and cannot be put back (banking and borrowing are both "final" transactions.)

also, you don't borrow just to have pts available...you would only borrow the pts you needed to complete a reservation.

Points can only be borrowed when you make a reservations and don't have enough banked and current UY (based on dates of stay) to cover the reservation. There is no restriction as to when in the UY you can do it. Once borrowed, those points will have to be used in the UY they are borrowed to if the reservation is cancelled.

You can borrow at any time for a trip including a last minute reservation at end of use year. However, you only borrow when you call to make ressie. You do borrow at time ressie is made and once that occurs, points can never be put back into their original use year.
