I got refused a credit card today on line and I truly dont know why, It really really bugged me.

Only 3 addreses my 38 years, only 3 jobs, latest job 10 years, latest house 10 years, mortgage same time, never missed any kind of payment whatso ever, have 2 other ccards for around 12 years, pay it in full every month. I earn way more than min req for card.
Same bank acc for 17 years. Is it worth going into my bank to ask if they have any ideas even although it was a thomas cook cc, underwritten by barcley, I phoned them and said they cant tell me. arggggg.

Sounds like you need to check your credit report and make sure it's all correct.

You should defintely check, someone may have run up debts in your name or there could be errors on your record :headache:

I work for a major bank - if we have an occasion like this we also would advise customers to check their credit file - usually www.equifax.co.uk then if there is nothing showing up then you usually can ask to appeal the decision. Another reason why the card might have been declined is that you asked for a limit more than they would normally offer new customers, even though your salary can more than support this. It's not usually advisable to apply to different companies as each application can leave an imprint on your file - have you applied for other forms of credit recently?

Hope this helps a bit.

No, we have had no credit or asked for any except mortage and cc with mbna, we have never even had a car loan, we did not ask for any amount on the card, we only wanted it as you get cash back for hols, we have another 2 cards that we pay every month, never pain interest on either of them in all the years weve had them.

Do I have to pay for the credit check thingy?
It is so annoying how much debt some folk run up and we cant even get dumb cc, o well.

Thanks guys for all the replies this was really bugging me, I will post and let you know if I find out anything.

thanks, BUT this says I have an excellant credit rating

I am going into the local bank i have had my acc/ mortage with since I was married 17years ago.
watch this space.

There seem to be a few of the 0% interest free cards out there at the moment, including Virgin, who seem to be linked to MBNA. We know of several people who have been refused a Virgin card because they already have an MBNA one, so it could be something as simple as this.

It is not a slur on your credit history, just the cards are obviously all administered by the same bank at the end of the day.

Annie, you could be correct, also I was thinking, I spend probably a grand every month and pay it of every month in full,I wondered if because you get travel pounds back for every 100 you spend and they potentialy will not be making anything from me but giving me travel points.??

oh I dont knowfed up with it now, it is just annoying!
tel my own bank and they were unhelpfull.
