Any body read the "Left Behind" series of books?

I've heard a little about them and thought they sounded interesting. I was in a book store yesterday and they had a display of all the books. I picked up the first one. I realise it's a *fictional* story about the "end of time/earth".

I've recently read several of Dan Brown's books, including the DeVinci Code and found them interesting. (Though, since they are *fiction*, I'm amused by how many people have gotten their "knickers tied up in a knot"....)

These books are "fictional", but based on biblical prophicies. As a christian person I enjoyed the books and am glad I won't have to be around for what will happen.

I think whether you agree with the background of the story or not they are extremely entertaining books that I think anyone would enjoy. I have the entire set myself and have read thru several times as you have to pay attention to keep up with the action.

"Fiction", yes. My DH read the first one and said it does not follow Revelations and he did not read any of the others. I have not read any of them.

I have read the first four and then put them down. I have always been "in-tune" with the end times. It's something I came to a realization about when I was like five years old (far too young to have been "taught" about it). Anyway, it freaked me out a little and haven't continued reading. They are fascinating books though. I found myself going from the books to the prophetic books of the Bible to compare. I should go back and finish reading them.

Also add me to the list of being glad I won't be around for all that is to come.

I read the first one and got a little freaked out. I know it's just a fictional story, but it was a little scary to think it could happen. However I did enjoy the first one and I am planning on starting the second one soon.

I read the entire series and LOVED them! They are definitely books that you need to take the time to "really get into"....a time with no distractions, etc. I realize the books are "fiction", but it really does inspire you to take a long hard look at your life and the possibilities of what may happen (according to the Bible, of course) if we do not live according to His word.

My honest opinion is that Tim LaHaye is making a load of money on his "theology" which is not very well respected in the world of theology. I am glad you realize it is nothing more than fiction, but unfortunetly far too many don't see it and actually believe there is a rapture to come, end times, etc etc. It can scare people unnecessarily, I think.

I am glad they are losing popularity, as there was a lot of issues within churches involving the series, and people buying into it all... might I say a lot of cleanup? As far as the writing, I have read several of them and I think they are poorly written, but just my own opinion. I do think people should read them and see what they are all about before passing judgement on them, you know? So I encourage you to give them a shot I try to stay relatively quiet on my opinion about them, as many people get really defensive about it all =)

I read the entire series and enjoyed them as fiction. Some of the books are definately better than others, but the ones that don't seem as good usually are because they are setting up something that is going to happen in a future book. I have not read the new "prequel" that just came out.

I have read them all and really enjoyed them. I am a Christian - and although I didn't get my bible out and check each scripture, etc. my friend that recommended them to me did and she felt like it was very in-line with the bible. Of course it's fiction - but it really got me thinking about my life...and I have re-read them occasionally and it motivates me to be better in my life. I have a lot of room for learning and improvement - am I going to suggest the books as a learning tool - no - but I still think they have great value and for me an enjoyable read. Now I need to get the Pre-quel so to speak - the new book that is about their lives before the rapture. I would highly recommend them.

I read the entire series.. my entire book group laughed at me and wagged their fingers at me. It is FICTION.... I am a Catholic girl so I am not as well acquainted with the Bible as some Christian bibliophiles. I took the series as utilizing the Bible as an Biblical outline for the fictional story.

It is an interesting series.. it has some serious lags in a few of the books tho.

I will admit that some of the references made in the first several books encouraged me to re-evaluate my spiritual self.

I have read them all and as a collection I have enjoyed them and I feel that they are in line with Biblical prophesy. I gave them away because I feel that good books should be shared. Now my criticism of them. I think that they could have written the entire story in about half of the books. The first four or five were very compelling and I read them quickly. The middle group of books seemed to drag. Over all I felt that there was too much dialog. I don't think that they were particularly well written. As a Christian I would recommend them to anyone. I think it is valuable to take the lessons of Biblical prophesy and Revelation and put it in contemporary terms that anyone can understand. I will read the new one as well.

Well according to the Bible there is indeed a rapture and end times to come. I knew this WAY before any of these books were written.

I read them and am also a Christian. I enjoyed some more than others. But my overall feeling is if you can sit and read all of them, you will be entertained and possibly enlightened.

IMHO: Books 1-5 and the last 2 books were the coolest!

I read them recently as well. I agree that the first few were quite interesting, but the last SEVERAL just seemed forced. I too got the feeling that the author was just drawing out the story to make money off of more books.
I'm a recently converted Catholic (raised Southern Baptist) so much of the tone of the book, I didn't agree with, but growing up Baptist, it wasn't things I'd never heard before.
All in all, I'd say they are worth the read.

I'm reading the last one now! Thoroughly enjoyed the first 3-4, and about every other one after that. These books are good fiction based on the writers' interpretation of Biblical prophecy.

I've read them all too, except for the new prequal that just came out. I agree that some are better written than others and some of the ones in the middle seeem to drag a bit. I really liked them though. I thought that they were good as action type books as well as Christian fiction. No matter what your beliefs are, they do make you think which any good book should, IMO!
