Over the years I have read and enjoyed Karen Kingsbury, specifically the Baxter Family series(s). My daughter is 13 and now enjoys them and is following in her Mama’s footsteps. From that, she is begging to visit Bloomington, IN. We are in Central KY so it’s not inconvenient, but I've brushed the idea off as I am not sure its going to be what she visions. However, I was dabbling with weekend getaway ideas, and thought I would reach out here. I saw that there is truly a Lake Monroe there – is there any other references in the book that we could see?

OR – books aside – anything anyone else would recommend a family of 3 visit – its my DH, myself, and our DD.

I was there for 5 years for college (Indiana University). College sports are important -- football or BASKETBALL. The MAC (Musical Arts Center) is second in size to the Metropolitan Opera stage, and the music department is world-renowned, so concerts or operas are a good bet if that's an interest.

Nashville, IN is north of Bloomington, and a quaint day trip (Brown County is particularly nice in the fall).

Looks like there was a "Baxter Family Reunion" back in June that included 20 places on a map -- maybe send an email to see if she'd forward the map to you? https://www.karenkingsbury.com/bloomington

I went to school there and make it back to Bloomington a few times a year for games. We are actually going for to the IU Michigan State this Saturday. The campus is absolutely beautiful. Definitely take time to walk that. Drive by fraternity and sorority row. So many gorgeous houses. Visit Kirkwood Street and the shops. We like to eat at Nick’s English Hut. It’s an IU institution, but there are many other great restaurants. Lake Monroe is nearby, as well as Nashville, Indiana as a pp mentioned.

I had found that link and was bummed that we missed it - but if you click on Buy Tickets and get details, it happened in 2018 - however, I do love the idea of trying to find the map they used. I will work on that! And your other suggestions are great and give me some things to look into!

Thank you, I will definitely check these items out!
