this is our first trip to universal. my husband and I, and our 12 yr old son. are there any rides that are, well, a waste of time? Disney has a few,and i was wondering if universal has any.

Personally...I don't care for The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad stunt show at IOA so I would say skip that one. I've also heard bad reviews of the new Beetlejuice show at the Studios and I'm not a fan of the Terminator 2 show also at the Studios. All others are OK and should be entertaining. It's really a personal thing so I'm sure you'll get many different responses but you'll have to make the decision.

We didn't care for Sinbad or Terminator, and we felt Twister was a complete waste of time and not even a little bit entertaining (frankly, I'm not sure why they don't repurpose that space for something else). We also don't like kiddie coasters, they are just too rough/jerky without being fun, so we didnt' enjoy Flight of the Hippogriff or the Woody Woodpecker coaster. Everything else was wonderful!

The problem with this question is that some people's most favourite is other people's least favourite.

To better help folks answer, why not tell us what rides you find unappealing to you at Disney? At least that way, we can relate them to similar rides at Universal.

Well said, especially because I really wouldn't consider any attractions at either park "a waste of time" as the OP categorized them.

Some attractions are more appealing than others and some are more easily passed over if in a time crunch, but I think every attraction has some value, even if it is as silly as One Fish Two Fish or the similar attraction in Springfield. Help us to understand what you find unappealing and why, and we can help you identify those attractions that might fit best in the "if we have the time and energy" portion of your touring plan.

For example, while I'm not a huge fan of the revamped Beetlejuice show, I wouldn't call it a waste of time as the performers are mostly quite talented and it is a great opportunity to sneak in a sit-down/rest if you're getting tired.

This is a question of a highly subjective nature. For example, I agree about Sinbad which was not a favorite of ours and once was enough. However, I always enjoy Terminator 2 and see it every other trip or so. Same thing with Twister but of course we loved those films. Also, It really would help to know what kind of attractions you like as well as dislike. If your visit is long enough I say try everything -twice even to be sure.

I find many attractions to be a waste of time. I'll list them and say why, so you can make up your own mind.

Shrek: Gonna take some heat for this, probably. But, the hydraulics in the seats are so loud that it's really hard to hear what's happening on screen. I didn't think the show was particularly entertaining, either. I thought the pre-show was much better.

Anything in Seuss land: Just geared too much toward kids. Not my thing.

E.T.: The animatronics are old as heck, but lack the nostalgia that the same Disney-era rides possess. It's not a really well done ride, either.

Twister: Thought it was lame. I live in Kansas, though, so I've seen my share of actual Twisters (and lived through a few). Your mileage may vary.

Sinbad: Bleh. Not a fan of those kinds of shows.

Flight of the Hippogryph: Not thrilling enough for the wait time. See also: Pteranadon Flyers, Woody Woodpecker

Never seen Terminator show, but we skip it anyway.

Storm Force Accelatron: It's teacups.

We like Twister and Terminator, but pass on Shrek also. I think the Sinbad show is worth seeing, maybe not every trip, but I would see it on the first visit. It's not THAT bad, and kids would find it entertaining.

for people who have been to UO many times, I can see why they would say to skip these things, but for newbies- I would say to go see everything.

we saw beetlejuice once, over 10 years ago and never went back!

We really like the terminator show/movie.

We skipped Shrek last time. My son was a huge Shrek fan years ago and they played that movie on tv and he watched it a million times!
I wouldn't skip it if you've never been.

My kids liked the Sinbad show. It wasn't the greatest!
I could skip that next time.

Love ET.

If you have time, see and ride it all.

i found

twister to be very out dated
Terminator 2 was boring and again very out dated

for me these two rides need replaced.

Shrek 4d was amazing 4 years ago but going bk last year i just didn't find it as funny as .. dispical me.

I don't do roller coasters so :p

It is so subjective...we loved Sinbad and Terminator and Twister and so did our 10 yr old...On the other hand , Poseidens Fury was not worth the time we spent doing it

OP taste is subjective, I enjoy repeat visits to most of the ones DIS'd;)here.

There are several guidebooks that give detailed info on the rides for planning purposes.

A first timer.....see as much as you can then decide for yourselves.

I do use Terminator show as a great place to have a power nap. Not kidding. Slept right through it twice :rolleyes1

It's got to be the one attraction at both parks which I feel is the MOST obsolete in terms of technology. The 3D is HORRENDOUS when you compare it to what's out there today. You can see better quality 3D in a home theater - it's time to either update the show with newer footage (perhaps based on the upcoming movie) or retire it completely. I found it almost embarrassing.

I vote to skip the Simpsons ride, and shriek 4-d. Simpsons is just to corny and whips you around really good, and shriek takes a while, even though it's a decent storyline.
