Any BAD Disney Rest?

I don't know why I read these threads that are negative towards restaurants. ;) Inevitably, one of the places that I want to try is in here. Now I stress and worry whether it's worth trying. We should have a rule that you can't put down a restaurant until you've had two bad meals within a one year time frame. It's kind of like having kids, you can't really complain about raising them until you have two. For that reason, I can't say anything negative about anyplace at WDW. I will say, however, that I LOVE the Rose and Crown. In fact, I can hear it calling me right now. It's time for a cold Bass Ale. :hyper:

Like another poster, I dislike the Flying Fish. The service has been horrible both times we have been there. My wife likes the place and I hate it.

The Sci-Fi has really gone downhill from when it first open. The food is now very weak.

I don't mind the negative reviews.. I take them with the grain of salt unless one is consistantly mentioned . it's the positive ones *I *need to avoid..there are only so many meals in one day and I want to try them all!!!:(

I agree. Reviews are a great reference but you could go to a restaurant today, me the same one tomorrow, and have a totally different experience than the other based on the server, what's ordered etc. We have had many, many more positive dining experiences than poor ones at WDW. Some mediocre yes, but then I read rave reviews about the same places. I think the food needs a little boost at San Angel, because the atmosphere is so nice. Have had 2 less than stellar (one downright poor) experience at Alfredo's but they *are* very busy and I think that affects things. Had a burger at Rosie's All American Cafe that I have not forgotten and not for a good reason...but other than that we have enjoyed our Disney meals. We've been to dinner at Chef Mickey's 4 times and never had a bad meal. We eat the boiled shrimp, salad, rolls, prime rib (which was surprisingly good last year for buffet roast beef!), parmesan mashed potatoes, kid's fare for the kids, and lots of desserts! Have never left unsatisfied but also know what to expect going in and know it's not California Grill caliber food either - just a fun buffet. I think if you use the reviews as a guideline but read the menus and follow your instincts on what your family's likes and dislikes are that you won't go wrong.

I won't say BAD, (to me for a meal to be BAD, it has to be where I take a bite, and discreetly try to empty my mouth into a napkin), but one place DH, DD and I did not care for was Concourse Steakhouse at Contemporary. I'd also be fine to never dine at Pizza Planet again.

:o

It is funny reading some of the posts as some of our best meals have been at places others deem as terrible. We love the San Angel but always get the tenderloin, love Alfredo's, Rainforest, Planet Hollywood and had a good meal at Hollywood and Vine. I would consider us as being fairly picky as far as which restaurants we go back to and I wouldn't hesitate to eat at any of them again. I do think Tony's has gone downhill with breakfasts and the pizza at any WDW restaurant fails to impress us. I won't get started on our disappointment with coffee, other to say that Kona serves the only decent coffee at WDW.

I would have to agree with previous posts about the fact that everyone has their own tastes. I have had good meals at places people don't like and bad meals at places people like. But my vote for this thread is PINOCCHIO'S VILLAGE HAUS in the Fantasyland area of MK. I've only eaten there once, in 1998, and the food was just awful. I did not even finish what I got.

I wasn't that crazy about Boma or Restaurant Marrakesh so it's probably just not my type of food.

I have to say ABC Commissary! I'm a teacher and actually like soybean hamburgers from the school lunch room. The one I had at the Commissary was not near as good as the school ones! I couldn't even eat it! I will never eat there again.

We LOVE the Kona Cafe, Sci Fi (for hamburgers), CA Grill, O'hana, and Le Cellier.

Thankfully we've never had anything we've hated, but we certainly have learned afew lessons along the way. For starters, we just can't do Disney counter service. The frenetic feel of say, Pizza Planet or Pinnochio House, totally defeats the "let's take a break" purpose of our meal time! I don't want to hunt down a table or stand in a cow cue after hoofing around the park all day. So those type places are pretty much off the play list for our crew. (If we want quick food, we hit one of the carts, like the turkey legs or eggroll carts, and sit outside and soak up the Disney atmosphere that way...) As for sit-down fare, there are some places we won't return to because again, we learned they didn't suit us. Coral Reef was an ok experience, but we felt that price versus goods / services received were too far apart. Just not into fish viewing enough to make it a do-over. Plus, we could clearly see that we were quite lucky to net a table right in front of the tank -- more likely on a future trip we'd get put in a back tier. Not sure it would hold our kids interests as well.

Now ironically, we loved Chef Mickeys -- it's fun and buffets suit our family style. The food was always tasty. But we aren't total AYCE cheapies -- I love Chefs Du France too! We love Sci-Fi, but after doing it for the last 3 trips, we're ready to move on!

I really haven't had very many "bad" dining experiences at WDW. The only meals that come to mind as truly bad are the lunch buffet at Crystal Palace (but that was about 8 years ago)--LONG wait in the heat, even with a PS, food was yucky--and the Yakitori House. The Yakitori House got good reviews here on the DIS for quite some time, so I decided to give it a try. My meat was bland and fatty. I think it's quality must have slipped recently.

I do agree with the others that it's really a day to day thing sometimes. I had one dinner at Boma that was OUTSTANDING and one that was just ho-hum. Same story with service at Rainforest Cafe at Animal Kingdom (though the food was delicious when it finally came).

The only restaurants I really try to avoid are ones that get many bad reviews or reports of food poisoning.
