Any alternative strategies to the Disney stroller rentals?

Ok, we've got 2 kids so we need the double stroller. Our kids are 6 and 3, so they aren't small kids either.

I believe the doulbe stroller rental is $30/day and we will be there for 9 days = $270. I think that I could buy one of those strollers for half that price!!!

We don't want to lug from home two strollers.

Does anyone have any alternatives to the double disney stroller. We kinda like having the double one because one or both can sit inside and we aren't walking around with two seperate strollers.

Is there anywhere in the Orlando area that i can rent or buy a double stroller for a reasonable price and not what Disney is charging?

The gift shops sell a Kolkraft stroller that is pretty nice for $40; it has a sunshade and cupholder too. I don't know what the weight limit is, though.

Couple of questions:

1) How often do you really think your six year old will be in the stroller?
2) Will you have access to a car? If so, perhaps you could buy a cheap single stroller at Walmart that the kids can take turns in and drop it off at a Goodwill before you head home. Still cheaper than renting for all those days, and you're doing a good thing.

When I planned a trip to Disneyland last year I looked into offsite companies that rent things like cribs, strollers, high chairs etc. I just did an internet search for "orlando stoller rental" and found several similar companies in the Orlando area. Most of these will deliver a stroller to your resort and pick it up when you leave. Their rates are lower (one I saw was $78 a double stroller for the week), and you would be able to use the stroller around the resort and traveling from the buses to the parks. I haven't tried any of these companies, but they may be worth a look. Good luck!

Several DIS-ers have mentioned having good luck with A Baby's Best Friend, abbf.com for stroller, crib, etc, rentals.

How big is your 6-yr-old? If not too big, consider getting a Joovy Caboose. It's a sit-n-stand type of stroller. We used one last year when our kids were 18 months & 5 and it worked pretty well. Our oldest is a pretty big kid and the poor stroller kind of groaned when he jumped on, but it was still push-able (last year he was ~48" and 52 lbs). I think the recommended weight limits are 45 lbs for each seat. This year, we are ditching the Caboose and making him hoof it; he's up to 50" and 57 lbs. I got it for $150 from Amazon, no shipping or tax. We liked it better than the similar Baby Trend Sit-N-Stand at Target that was $20 less. If you have a Babies R Us nearby, you can test-drive the Joovy there.

We're doing an offsite rental from www.orlandocribrentals.com. We're getting the InStep double jogging stroller -- $85 for 8 days. The front wheel rotates, seats recline and there are baskets underneath for storage. They are delivering it right to us at the hotel. This way we don't have to pack and schlep one all the way from home, since our 4 year olds don't normally use a stroller anymore.

The best part about renting from offsite or bringing your own is that you have it for waiting for buses, downtown disney, walking through the resort to get to your room at the end of the night, etc etc.

we are renting a really nice double from orlando stroller rentals, it is a city mini jogger with a nice small fold. my kids are 2 and 5 so i am bringing my $5 umbrella stroller just to get thru the airports and keep her contained while getting luggage and stuff, but will use the rental for parks and downtown disney.

There are several stroller swap being organized on the budget board...you might look into that.

A while back these boards had Stroller Swaps. Why don't you consider starting one? They are set up just like the refrigerator swap. Back in 2004, I participated in both the frig and stroller swap. Just make sure you get a decent one and when it wears out, get a new one. I was the one that reported an accident in the stroller. It was well pass usage time.

We bought 2 $20.00 umbrella strollers from babies r us that we're bringing with us. My kids DD7 and DS5 (ages when we travel) will probably wear them out completely by the end of our trip. So I'm not expecting these strollers to make the return trip with us. But that's ok. $40.00 vs. $224.00 makes that decision a no-brainer for me.
We're your typical park commandos. We'll be there when it opens, and leave with it closes. No, before anyone jumps on my case, I do not expect DD to spend all day in the stroller. Frankly, it'll be available for her towards the end of the day when I've completely worn her out. I'm on vacation too, and so I should have a vacation from whining!!
