Has the alligator that was hanging out in the canal at BCV last Oct-Dec been spotted recently?

I was there March 27 - 31st and saw him/her twice. One time in the front of BCV (by the quiet pool), one time in the back of BCV (the Epcot side). Not sure if it was the same gator or not. I will be there in 16 days and will report back then, we always look for him.

I was there from 4/21 through 4/25, and we saw the alligator every day. Our room faced the canal near the quiet pool, and he usually swam by everyday around 6:00 p.m. I saw one guest feed him a frog!!

Some people are so ignorant! That's dangerous for the guest and not at all good for the wild creature. If they get used to associating food with people, they will surely end up causing harm to "another stupid person" and thus have to be destroyed!

Even though I hate to admit it, I agreed with our former governor (Jesse Ventura) when he made comments like "too stupid to live" and "can't legislate away stupidity". Of course, his comments got way more publicity (a.k.a. criticism from the more politically correct) than I ever will! :teeth:

P.S. I'd love to see the alligator - from a "respectable" distance, of course!

O.K. - I'll sound stupid now. I think I have figured out this real (with all the discussion I am thinking it isn't the joke I thought it was a joke at first). Is it something Dis put there on purpose or where did it come from? Is he hard to find? I'm thinking my DD might like it.

Thanks
Sandy

Come on.. you guys serious? An alligator at BCV? Like, isn't that a safety issue... or something? Is this a snipe hunt for us uninitiated new members?

Did he go tick, tick, tick?

Here is a pic from my trip in October. http://www.wdwinfo.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=177&papass=&sort=1&thecat=500 Alley, can usually be seen in the canel either in front or behind BCV (the canel runs underneath the hotel), like I mentioned above. We have seen him a few times everytime we have been there. Disney did not put him there on purpose, he came all on his own. The only time I was really afraid of him was one day that we were by the parking lot side and made a right turn around the corner to the back side of the building, to see if we could see him there and he scurried from the grass back down into the canel quickly. That was a bit un-nerveing.

We were there 4/21 for four nights and he was there. I've heard they can't remove him until he grows a little larger, Florida law? He looked pretty big to us.

I wonder if they'll have to call in Steve Irwin? ;)

Anyway, does this alligator get out on the grounds, too?
Wonder if he'll ever want to take a swim in the pool? :)

We saw him last November in the lake beside the pool.

I am a little nervous about this!

Wanted to share that as we(humans) continue to build in areas where nature has ruled, we will continue to be at greater risk!!!

Wanted to share our creature story from our vacation in the White Mountains in New Hampshire (Loon Mountain area)

We stayed in a Townhouse and the day we arrived a fellow vacationer had met our car in the parking lot to give us a "heads up" that a "Mother Bear" - thats right I said "BEAR" was in the Townhouse complex with her "2" cubs.

Our initial thought - "HOW COOL" until we realized that she was in total charge!!!!

Day 3 was our first encounter! Walking to the river I saw a man and 3 kids following "The Bear" in the woods - "SO STUPID" unfortunately I was stuck where I was until she moved very far away! I had my 2 kids 5 & 3 with me, hubby was on his way right behind me and potentially in her path so I wanted to make sure I made all attempts to catch him!

Next, on the same day my husband was walking up from the river to our Townhouse - there is a path about 100 yds. and at the end is our "parking lot"! Well, there she was in the parking lot up a tree with the babies! Fortunately friends had met us at the river and had their car. After he rushed back to us and we decided it was to close to be an open target on the riverside we all piled into their car and drove back up to the house.

They stayed in that tree for 4 hours. We were hostages! We couldn't get to our cars because they were right near them, our friends car was to small for all of us to go out for the day! We called Police and they told us some idiots had been feeding her and that is why she hadn't moved on! Also, we were told that the local Dunkin' Donuts had forgotten to close their trash canister one night - they were fined :p

It was exciting but definitely scary! Not sure how I will respond to a "GATOR" aren't they fast?

Just thought I would share!

seen the gator by bcv its real...storywe were told was that construction folks started feeding it when they were building bcv and it hung around.

also seen one at magic kingdom
(just last month)...people were feeding it turkey legs (it was also eating something else...I won't mention here). it was inbetween the walkway and a small building (I have a pic if someone wants it).

We first thought it was caged in but its not...mentioned it to a cm and he ran off to check on it...not sure what they did...did give me pause to let the kids run around on the island...folks at the poly said that there are actually two They added that animal kingdom staffers came over to remove some ducks from the area but for some reason they left the gator alone...but hey its florida ... they are all over the place...you can see them in the drainage ditches when your at the airport.

mitcam, I love this story! We're about 45 minutes south of Loon....I've had a bear stroll through my back yard and scratch his backside on my clothes line, and my dad and brother have had numerous bird feeders destroyed by bears. But I've yet to encounter one in a parking lot! I would have been nervous, as well, because of the cubs! Great story!

We arrived Easter for a 5 night stay, and as the above said, Mr. Al-E-Gator is definitely still there (we did see him/her during our stay in Dec., too). Also, we did see the snapping turtle one day as well. The two were side by side as if on "display."

Yes, we also saw the gator at BCV in the canal by the quiet pool during Easter week. So there you go frozenfingers - lots of eyewitnesses!

It was cool to see him, but I much preferred the bunnies right outside our patio, a mommy & baby bunny - so cute!

We saw a family feeding Mr. Ally-Gator donut holes when we were at BCV in December.:( He certainly knew to swim towards us as we were standing on the bridge in the hopes of getting a snack. We did not feed it but it definately was trained as to what a lot of people do.

Also heard from a monorail CM that if your on the monorail and look down into the water and see any type of cage, it's probably an alligator cage. Isn't that why there's no swimming in the lakes on Disney property??

I must admit I look in the pool and hot tub at BCV before getting in...just in case! LOL!

I was told by one of the security people at BCV that feeding the alligator is a punishable offense and that if I saw anyone feeding the alligator to please let him know. At that time, I saw no security stationed by the alligator to do anything about the interaction between the alligator and people.

But when I first asked the security man about the alligator, he played dumb as if he had never heard of the alligator. Only when I told him I had seen pictures of it on the internet (it was not around the day that I went to look for it; so I could not tell him that I had seen it myself) did he then acknowledge it was there. So I think they are torn between bringing attention to the alligator and doing anything about it, and they have come down on the side of not ignoring it and hoping it will go away and that people will not feed it, and they are not really doing anything to bring any attention to the fact that the gator is there -- and has been for over 6 months now.

Wes, not sure if its the same one or not, but I first saw the gator at a stay at the Beach Club in October 2001. That is 1 1/2 years ago. I have since seen it April 2002, October 2002, and March 2003.

They try to trap them and relocate them to areas without people. But they come back.

Alligators are a reality in Florida and anyone that is overly concerned should know that.

I have seen one at the Bus Stop at Riverside. I guess he was wanting a day at the parks and hated to walk, lol.

I am surprised that anyone would be foolish enough to feed it, but then I can't believe the number of people that feed those horrible black birds then complain when they attack people.
