Any 10-16-04 cruisers yet?

After a last minute change of plans (Hurricane Frances hit Grand Bahama Hard - we had been planning to go to our lucaya) We just booked this cruise. Imagine my surprise when I found out this chain was 55 pages so I don't really have time to go through them all.

So a quick introduction - My name is Debbie, I will be traveling with my husband, 3 1/2 year old daughter and 11 month old son. We have room 8520. My husband and I won (yes won) a 3 night cruise in October of 1999 (I believe it was the wonder first open to the public sail) We had a great time and I have just been dreaming about doing it again but it was so expensive (admittedly I wanted a verandah again and some extra room). So all of a sudden the hurricane wiped out my trip I had planned and I have all sort of personal issues going on (I'm only 35 and my Mom died more than 3 years ago and my dad now has lung cancer and It doesn't look good) and I said "screw it" and we are blowing the budget on this trip! I don't know think I will be able to get away over the next year because of my dad. I am so excited and everytime I think of how much fun my daugher is going to have I start to cry. Looking forward to hearing introductions from everyone.

You better bring them already cooked. ;) But...good news! We are also having Japanese food! Jill is preparing it herself.

Sandy...I PM'd you back.

Debbie...I'm sorry you had to cancel your cruise but welcome to this one! My DH Joe, DD Jill, her DH AJ, and kids Alec 12 and Andrew 11months (when's your baby's birthday?) along with my DS Ted, his DW Mary and their DD Makayla 3 1/2, my girlfriend (since about 1960  ) who is known on this board under the alias "Julebobo" (and has a fetish about hotdogs) and all of her family are going. We are going to have alot of fun and I can't wait for this trip. I am very sorry to hear about your dad's illness. My dad died when I was 29 from the same thing.

Talk to all later,
Denise :wave2:

Hi Everyone,
Denise thanks for the welcome. Jeremy's Birthday is November 5th. This will be his "birthday cruise" I told our 3 1/2 year old tonight and had to pull her off the ceiling she is so excited.

Hi Debbie, welcome to the thread

Sandy, I am sooo glad that you and your family made it through the hurricane with only minor damage. I read that the Radisson is open and Ron Jon's suffered some water damage.

We are getting excited about sailing here. I am trying to get things together this week, the hottest week of the year. I made my 5 year old try on his black suit in 90 degree heat in an unairconditioned house. He was a real trooper though. He said he looks good in black....don't we all!

Frank, the challenging child, informed me the other day that "HIS life is miserable" because there was no LUCKY Charms to eat. Can we all say "DRAMA Queen"? I don't know where he gets these emotional, crazy outbursts.....must be the father's side.

My next task is to get the kids halloween costumes for the MNSSHP. I don't think the boys are gonna go for the princess outfits even though I keep pointing out the pretty pink lace. There is often a lot of eye rolling and loud groans however it doesn't stop me from torturing my children. Are you guys seeing years of therapy?

Please Stay SAfe and Well.

Rose

Hi Debbie Welcome aboard!!!!!

Welcome Debbie!

I read on another thread that someone cruising 10/2 got their docs. I'm not even going to start looking for them until 9/25.

I found this info on PortCanaveral.org and thought you guys might be interested in reading it.
The next Disney Magic cruise, scheduled to depart on Saturday, September 11, is still expected to leave from Port Canaveral as planned. "The service and cooperation from those at Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale during this time has been incredible, and we greatly appreciate their hospitality as we work through complications from the hurricane," said Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line. "I also want to thank all of the crew members who have done a tremendous job of continuing to focus on providing great guest service through Hurricane Frances."

Holz added that Disney Cruise Line is working closely with the talented leaders at Port Canaveral to re-commence operations there at the first opportunity.

Disney Cruise Line is currently performing a detailed inspection of the company's private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay, including its navigation channel and docking facilities. At this time, all of the other ports of call Disney Cruise Line visits - including Nassau in the Bahamas - are open for business.

Just got off the phone with a Disney Rep in Orlando. She indicated that they are just starting to process docs for 10/16 Magic and we should receive them within 2 weeks. They are back sailing out of Port Canaveral and all the parks had minimal damage. GREAT NEWS!!!

It was funny, she actually grew up about 3 miles from my home.

People who booked directly through DCL will probably see their documents much sooner than people who booked with a travel agent.

Has anyone told their child(ren)'s teacher(s) about the cruise yet? I was going to tell Brendan's teacher this week, but there wasn't any school because of Frances. After missing 7 days for the hurricane she probably won't be too happy to hear that I'm taking him out for 4 days next month.

I told my Dd's teacher and there was no problem. She is in a Montessori school and they are pretty flexible with these kinds of things. They consider them learning experiences. I am having her keep a log of miles traveled, important events, etc. so she can have a scrapbook as well as something she can take in and share with classmates. I got the scrapbook at Organized Living. It is very nice. Has a wooden cut out of MM right on the front. It was fairly on the expensive side...I think about $30 but it was worth it for the trip of a lifetime for her. AS a surprise, we will also be swimming w/the dolphins at Discovery Cove before the cruise.

Good Morning :sunny:

You probably already know about this but on the mouseforless site they have school excuse letters that you can download. I think they are pretty neat. Check them out if you haven't already.

Okay...I just checked the letters out again and they are actually for visiting WDW but you can get the idea.

I guess this message is to Jill (mother of Alex), What are you doing about formula. Are the fridges/coolers in the room cold enough to keep formula in? I was thinking about shipping all the babystuff to meet me at the ship (I'm neurotic when I travel I always bring two days of stuff in my carryon - once got stuck in an airport for 24 hours with my 7 month old DD). Just concerned about formula. My son is not a big fan of powdered, single serving can's way a ton to ship - I would need like 30 cans) and the premade 32 oz would be lighter but need to be refigerated once open. Any suggestions?

I just found out the schools won't be ready to open on Monday now. Man, they're missing so much school. At least it looks like Ivan will miss us.

Denise ~ I didn't know about those excuse letters. I'm gonna go check them out. Thanks.

When do you get the brochure for stateroom gifts? With your documents? Is anyone planning on ordering anything? On our last cruise (2001) I ordered a Captain Mickey plush doll for DS. He thought it came from Mickey himself. The look on his face was priceless. I don't want to go overboard, so I was thinking about either the DCL logo watch or the Bon Voyage Memory Box. I really like the box, but some people who booked with All Seasons Travel said that's what they give you for a gift. I don't want to have two of them. I wish I knew for sure. I don't want to not order it and find out AST didn't give us one. Such a dilemma. Does anyone know if they sell the Bon Voyage Memory Box on the ship?

Ooh, ooh, ooh! Someone cruising 10/9 just got their documents yesterday! They booked through All Seasons. I'll be looking for my docs next Friday. :Pinkbounc

Hey Everyone

Debbie, about the formula....... I was hoping that he would be on whole milk by the cruise. I tried it like 2 weeks ago and it didnt agree with him, so had to put him back on the formula. My mom is going to be down there a week before and she is going to go to a supermarket and purchase what I need. I had originally thought of just packing everything for him in a separate suitcase, but then we realized that with the formula cans it would be so heavy.............for keeping it cold, I guess we'll have to make sure we have ice in our rooms at all times to pack the bottles in. I usually buy the concentrate, but for the cruise I am buying ready to feed........it's going to be a pain, i'm sure..............but still, i'm excited.........Glad to see there's another baby Andrew's age on board. He'll be 1 on Sept. 24th!...... Maybe they can play!! See you all soon...Jill

Jill and Debbie ~ You can request a mini refrigerator to have in your cabin to keep formula cold.

Sandy...when do you request the refridgerator, before you go or after you get there? You learn something new every day on these boards! (I don't want one....just want to tell Jill in case she doesn't get back to the boards for a while)

Denise ~ Jill should call whomever she booked with (DCL or her TA) now to request the fridge. Then it'll be all set up and getting cold before they get to the cabin, hopefully. It's just easier to let them know ahead of time. If it's not there when they get in the cabin they should leave a note for the stateroom attendant or call Guest Services.

I thought that all the cabins came with a fridge. I know we had one in cat 11 on the first cruise we went to and I think the passport book said there is one is every cabin. Oh, well can't hurt to call and ask.................me:Pinkbounc
