I've checked the TSA website - and from what I understand, I need to put my daugher's antibiotics in a separate plastic bag and show them to the TSA people when we go through security.

Is that it? Nothing in writing from the pediatrician or anything?

are they liquid or pill form?

As has been discussed many times here, pills are no issue at all. While some advocate keeping them in the original packaging, many of us do not with no issue.

As to labelling, I also carry many pills marked in German only (ie not English) and TSA and CATSA in North America have never once even looked at any of them.

(I fly almost weekly)

If it is a liquid, however, and in a container over 3 oz. it should not go in the bag with your other liquids/gels. It should be packed separately and the screeners should be made aware that you have it packed. They will tell you if you should take it out or not. Putting it in a plastic bag is advisable to prevent spills, but is not necessary. If it is in a bottle 3 oz. or smaller, you can put it in your 3-1-1 bag for convenience, if you prefer.

it's liquid, and I have no idea what size the bottle is. I need to compare it, size wise, to some other meds I have here at the house.

I also need to keep it cold - I can use ice for that?

I hate to ask repetitive questions :rolleyes: But, I do appreciate the help.

This should answer all your questions re medication.
Additional items you may bring include:

Liquids including water, juice, or liquid nutrition or gels for passengers with a disability or medical condition;
Life-support and life-sustaining liquids such as bone marrow, blood products, and transplant organs;
Items used to augment the body for medical or cosmetic reasons such as mastectomy products, prosthetic breasts, bras or shells containing gels, saline solution, or other liquids; and,
Gels or frozen liquids needed to cool disability or medically related items used by persons with disabilities or medical conditions.

I missed that phrase when I was checking the TSA site. Thanks!

I don't know how old your DD is, but if she can be switched to the chewable antibiotics it would make things easier for you. We had to give DD anitbiotics on our last trip to DW and the pharmacist recommended using the chewables. Then we could take it with us into the park w/out worrying about keeping it cold. We packed skittles too and let her chew the pill with skittles to help with the taste. Just a thought!

Not a problem. We just did this in August. Granddaughter was on antibotics/cold and the doctor did give us a note just in case since we told them we were flying. We put the bottle in a thermal bag with frozen icepacks and no problem. My daughter told TSA she had medication for the 2 year old and formula for the 3 month old. They openned it and peaked in and waved her through. We were a little concerned about the frozen gel packs, but it was not an issue at all. However, remember when you get to your resort, you will need to keep the meds cold, especially if your room is not ready and the gel packs are no longer cold. Ask the bell service to store your meds in the frig until your room is ready. This is what we did at OKW. We asked when we checked in and found our room was not ready. Once we got into our room we just went back to bell service and got the meds from them.

I'm not sure there is a chewable version for the antibiotic my DD was given. I'll have to look into that. The pediatrician knows we are leaving this week for vacation, and was concerned that what medicine she gave us would knock out the infection... not whether or not it was portable. And I wasn't even thinking about the flight while we were there. :rolleyes:

I know what you mean. My DD just got strep again - even though we had her tonsils out. We went to urgent care and the antibiotic isn't strong enough. So now I'm back to the Doctor's offfice today. Fortunately we don't leave for DW until 10/13, so she'll be over it and done with the meds by then. I find the pharmacists to be very helpful - If you call and ask them they'll let you know whether it comes in chewable. Then they will call the Dr and get it changed for you. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your DD!:flower3:
