Do they work? I've been using Zaclir and it sort of works, but I can't use it very often because it dried my face out like CRAZY, to the point of extreme pain, so my doctor wrote me a prescription for some antibiotics. My mom isn't sure I should use them. She had bad experiences with the Tetris-thing when she was a kid and doesn't trust antibiotics now, but the doctor said that they're much better now, and I'm thinking that it might be worth a shot.

What do you guys think, has anyone ever used this kind of medicine for acne, and does it work? Any side-effects I should think about before getting some?

I'm lucky, I really do not have bad acne at all. For me my "anitbiotics" are soap and water, and occasionaly some pimple removing cream. :)

I use a form of BC that's used primarily to get rid of acne. It worked well.

And I used/sort of still use this cream called Clyndoxyl Gel. It's prescribed, and it works well too. I currently can't use it because it's been so long since I have, that it would make my skin red and itchy. I have to slow back into using it.

Sorry to butt in on the TB, but my DD considers me an expert on acne and said I should reply to this thread!

DD has been battling acne since a fairly young age and we've tried everything except Accutane to get it under control. When I first started taking her to the dermatologist, I thought there'd be a magical cure, but it's really a matter of trial and error to see what works best for your type of skin and acne.

Antibiotics worked fairly well while she was on them (and in conjunction with a benzoyl peroxide cream). But as soon as she stopped taking them, the acne came back. I think antibiotics are a good start to get things under control while you're starting a new skin care regimen, though.

Also, if the Zaclir is too drying for you then you could try a 2.5% benzoyl cream (Neutrogena On The Spot is a 2.5%). And use a mild moisturizer like Cetaphil, because drying skin out won't get rid of the acne...it will irritate your skin and cause more acne.

DD had her acne under control for over half a year using just a mild cleanser and 2.5% benzoyl cream, but her skin got used to that and is breaking out again, so we're back to square one with it.

Good luck with it and I hope you find something that works well for you.

I just started using acne treatment....
its call OXY
and it works great!!!
hope you find something

I used Benzaclin, which is topical cream. It dried my skin out really bad when I first started using it, but as long as I use a facial moisturizer, it's fine. I use Neutrogena Combination Skin Moisturizer.

But anyway, the Benzaclin works really well for me. It keeps everything under control except when I stress or it's that time of the month, then I break out. But even then, it's not bad at all. Talk with your doc though. He/She will know what's best.

I also use Neutrogena Cream Cleanser and Astringent. And I use a make-up that actually clears my skin up (Bare Escentuals Mineral make-up..it's a miracle worker!!!) With all that, my skin looks good most of the time.

Good luck!!

I literally tried EVERYTHING out there. I've been going to a dermatologist since 8th grade (two years ago) and everything would work for a little bit, and then completey stop, and my acne would just get more severe.

After talking it over with my doctor and my parents (believe me, we talked A LOT about this) I decided to try Accutane.
It's a drug that comes with a lot of risks, and I have to get a blood test every month to make sure there are no side effects, like liver damage.
I know most people would opt against it, but it's the strongest thing out there and NOTHING worked for me.

It's only been a week and a half and I already see MAJOR improvements. I can't have even a drop of alcohol when I'm using it (which will be for 5 months) and I have to be careful with sunscreen, since it makes you burn really easily, and I have to be careful using chapstick, moisturizers, and eye drops, since it seriously dries you out, but already I know it's worth it. I've never had anything work for me before this!

But anyway, having gone through basically every product on the market, I consider myself an acne medication specialist :]
Basically, there are gonna be trade-offs for any medication. With Accutane, I get sore throats, dry skin, sun burns, and dry eyes. But they're not that severe to me, and I think that getting rid of my acne is worth the side effects. It basically boils down to how important it is to you. If you find that the side effects outweigh the benefits, that's fine, but maybe prescription medication isn't for you.

Hope that helped! PM me if you have anymore questions.

okay i am only 12 and i already have it like savere its really bad
i get it from my moms side and her whole family had it bad and it got even worse as they becam teens
i have tried A LOT of things so far and like i said im only 12 and i cant get anything to really work for me
i have tried proactive, the stuff that says it is better than proactive, anything on the shelfs, a whole bunch of perscription crap (pills, creams, face washes), and none of it works for me
my doctor just keeps giving me stuff and says its better and it isnt for me
the only thing that works okay is the zeno and it is only really for no alot of acne just one in a while kind of thing and i have it more bad
my doctor said that whens i get a little bit older i can get put on birth control and i herd that really helps
my mom had it so bad she just had her face sanded cause nothing worked
so i dont know how bad urs is but i think u should try the antibiotics :]]
hope urs gets better,
kate

Ok I've been battling acne since 2nd Grade(yep I had my very first dermatoligist appointment in 2nd Grade) and currently use...

Differin 0.3 but they normally start people on 0.1 as thats where I first started Differin 0.3 is brand new but Differin been along for a very long time and I highly reccomend it

Doryx which they like people to start at a 100 MG and then slowly go down from there that stuff works wonderfully also

Duac which I leave in my purse which I just use on the minor pimple etc.

Rusula which is a face wash which you use when your in the shower

then to wash my face with before putting on Differin or something like that I use Cetaphil

Just so that you know everything but Cetaphil you CAN NOT get over the counter you must a prescription for which is kinda hard and all but everything ive listed does work wonderfully so if any of these are what your doctor has you listed for I would reccomend telling your mom theres nothing to worry about and also if your face gets dry at all when you first start using any of these product my dermatoligist says to always just use them everyother day. I hope your acne promblems go away soon and if you need any other info feel welcome to PM me Katie
