Anthem of the Seas a Cursed Ship? Another Cruise Sunk

    WNBC-TV.

On Saturday, Royal Caribbean tweeted that the giant ship was returning to Bayonne in New Jersey. The ship already was damaged on Feb. 6 when it was slammed by hurricane-forced winds and 30-foot waves, said WNBC.

The Royal Caribbean said a storm forecast off the coast of Cape Hatteras in North Carolina could have threatened the voyage.

"The safety and comfort of our guests and crew is always our first priority," Royal Caribbean said on its blog Sunday. "On a recent sailing, Anthem of the Seas experienced bad weather that was much worse than forecast; therefore, we want to be extra cautious about our guests' safety and comfort when it comes to weather in the area. That is why we have decided to head back to Cape Liberty immediately so that we can stay a safe distance from the storm."

The company said some passengers started to feel ill, but that didn't affect the decision to return to shore.

No mention of any compensation!

I pose the following question for discussion..............should there be any compensation?

I had also read/heard they were experiencing a Noro outbreak as well. I truly do feel sorry for all those impacted and their vacation dreams "crushed". I hope they made the best of the situation and weren't too disappointed or sick. I hope it goes smoother for the Anthem in future sailings!

The story I read on Cruise Critic last Saturday when this was announced had the following paragraph pertaining to compensation.

Royal Caribbean is refunding money for the two days passengers will miss and offering 50 percent of what passengers paid for the current cruise to be applied to a future cruise. Royal Caribbean also will cover the airline change fees, according to company spokeswoman Cynthia Martinez.

Very generous. It seems like a bad time of year to sail out of New york. Maybe RCCL should rethink their itinerarys.

Given that there are 6000 souls aboard, and royal say they have experienced 9-10 cases of noro over the past seven days, thats only 70 cases at worst so 1.166666% of those aboard.
I think it's weird they did not just cruise around on they way home and return to port on shedule, unless the noro count is climbing and they want to use that time to deep sanitize the ship.
I think the compensation is very generous.

I agree. My brother is on another Royal Cruise this week our of San Jaun, thankfully doing great.... but not everyone is able to vacation like many of us. They have never taken a real vacation, are in their mid 50's, lost a daughter to cancer and have been paying on their cruise for 2 years(went with a church group). They would have been devestated if they were on the Anthem right now. Sad.

What? Can you clarify what you are saying???

I was just agreeing with IBElIEVEINMAGIC, she said "I truly do feel sorry for all those impacted and their vacation dreams "crushed" My brother and his wife would be utterly devastated if they were on this ship rather than the one they are currently on since they have spent the past 2 years saving and planning for this once in a life time vacation.

Someone like myself who is blessed to vacation several times a year might not be as upset, but for some people, getting the time off work and saving for a long time for this one week, I can see they would be crushed.

@scootch I am sorry, I completely missed-read your post. You are spot on with what you were saying.

Passengers are being refunded 2 days of the cruise fare and getting 50% of the entire fare as a credit towards a future cruise in the next 12 months. Passengers on board have reported 60-70 cases of norovirus between passengers and crew which is less than 1 percent.

I guess that settles it. Sorry I did not see the compensation in any article........my error!

However, I ask again.....this was weather.nothing RCCL could controll...........should there be any compensation?

I do believe that the Anthem has had a string of bad luck recently which makes me a little nervous considering I sail on her on Monday. I'm hoping my first time cruising on RCL is smooth but I'll just go with the flow and see what happens.

I don't think there needs to be compensation but from a PR standpoint I think it's a wise idea.

I own a destination restaurant that can't be found anywhere else in the US. When we get our summer monsoon storms and lose electricity, I always have a staff member sitting in the lobby giving out free appetizer coupons to those who don't know we couldn't open.

Are you aware that there's a Royal forum that you could post Royal stuff in? I don't mean to pretend like I'm a mod, but it's odd to have Royal discussions in the Disney thread? I'm always inviting people having other Royal discussions over to the Royal board, because that's the place to have those conversations.

They know better now...if there's injury or death from it happening again, it's the end of Royal Caribbean.

Ha ha ha ha. You're not serious, are you?
