Answer to don't you get sick of going to WDW?

My reply is "Don't you get sick of going to [place they always go] every year?"

Seriously -- beaches, lakes, mountains don't generally change a whole lot.

At least there are new things to see and do every time we go to WDW!

People just don't realize how repetitive their OWN vacation habits are until you point it out to them.

The standing joke at our house is: what resort are we going to stay at for this vacation? :rotfl: It is just a given that we are going to WDW. We had our disneymoon there, kids have celebrated several different holidays there, kids have gotten sick there, made friends there... I could go on and on. Point being, WDW is a huge part of our lives, why wouldn't we want to go back?!?!?

"Don't you get tired of going to Disney?"

ME - "No."

"Don't you want to go somewhere else?"

ME - "No."

Either they get it, or they don't. No words from me are really going to change anyone else's mind. And if they don't want to go, that's just crowd control for me!

Oh, no one gets me except other Disney people. Not even my friends, who I take with me, often pay for, take to the best restaurants, and make awesome touring plans based solely around what THEY want to do and fill their heads with useless Disney knowledge. And they have a wonderful time and can't shut up about it for a while, then tell me a month later "It's fun, but I don't understand why you keep going back." :headache:

One of my dearest friends said to me once, when I took him to the Poly for his birthday, "My God, you could just go to Hawaii for what you spend at the Polynesian. Why don't you go to Hawaii instead?" I replied, "Because Hawaii doesn't have the Magic Kingdom." That kind of sums it up for me. :cloud9:

Plus Hawaii is a very very very long plane ride. And the Poly for you is about an hour's drive. For me it's a three hour plane ride. Huge difference.

And the flight to Hawaii for me is about $800 round trip. Eeeeek! Oh...and if you hit bad weather...forget it, your vacation plans go out the window. Hit bad weather in Disney?? Grab a poncho and soldier on! :goodvibes

See? I get it.

It may sound silly, but I just feel like Disney is like home to me. After my parents sold the house I grew up in and the town I grew up in changed beyond recognition, I felt like I lost that place that felt like 'home'. I realized that Disney is now the one place that I can keep going back to and get that comforting sentimental feeling. I have memories there from when I was very young and throughout my whole life. Though there have obviously been changed and updated, it still gives me the same feeling. Corny, I know.

I usually try and go to WDW once a year. People do ask me if I am going again, but I have never noticed a sense of sarcasm or "what's wrong with you" attitude. I should point out that I am 60 years old, divorced and over the last 8 years have gone solo with the exception of last winter when I took my whole family to the world.

I have had many ask me about the place and to help them make plans. I have never had anyone nastily ask me why. They have curiously asked why, but when I explain they seem to understand.

I am a mild Disney freak. I participate in a couple of boards and enjoy my trips, but, quite frankly, I do tend to get moused out very quickly. If I spent two weeks in Florida, I usually only spend 4 or 5 days of it at Disney. I go to Universal about every other year for a one day, two park visit. The rest of the time is spent exploring Florida. I go to the Space Center or take a day trip to Silver Springs or a couple of days and head for Key West or the East Coast beaches or West Coast beaches.

I know just what I want to see and do at WDW so I focus on those things and it takes me less time to do the parks.

A friend said to me yesterday...(name) just told me that she liked Disney better than you do. I replied...you know that might be true. My friend looked shocked and said that they thought I would be upset because she thought I would want to defend my assumed status as the greatest Disney lover ever.

I'm afraid I am not even close to that. I don't drink or do drugs but Disney is my "trip". I can relax and let my old, old body feel like it is young again. Just by association my youth returns even if it is ever so briefly.

So I may just not see that I am being talked down to when someone asks why. In fact...it doesn't matter if they do or not. I will live my life and they can do theirs. It does not affect me, so I cannot see it.

I knew you would. :thumbsup2
My other favorite is..."But it's a kid's place."
Well, I guess then I'm a kid at heart. But kids can't drink their way around Epcot.

Not at all corny :) I sort of feel the same way, we moved a lot when I was a kid, so I never had an attachment to my "childhood home." I have many memories at WDW, and I get that comforting sentimental feeling too. :cloud9:

I've been telling people it's our second home. Our home away from home. We now have an Owner's Locker which makes packing so much easier.

It's where we are always comfortable and it makes us happy.
