One time a co-worker asked me where I lived. When I told him, he replied "Oh. That's not such a bad area. I let my kid trick-or-treat in part of that neighborhood."

I didn't say anything because the co-worker is actually a decent and nice guy but it became a running joke between me and another co-worker who overheard the conversation with comments to one another such as "Just keep your car doors locked when you drive through the neighborhood."

I would have replied, "so, was that your kids I handed crack out too?" :p

That reminds of when my daughter was in kindergarten, she was a Daisy and we invited the troop to our house for the b-b-que, one of the mothers asked "Oh you live in the house next to the dump?" I asked her what dump and she described my house. I answered her no I live in that dump.

We had brought the house only a few months earlier and were fixing it up. It was an old farm house with land, the fencing was falling down. Little by little we were taking down the old fence and replacing it with new, along with other major things that had to be done. We brought the house for a song and when we sold it we made a mint, it was no longer considered a dump.

Once again the things people say.

Crime has no address.
I've had no problems there and we like it.

sounds like my DM. We have lived in our house for 20 years and never had any crime. Its an older area close to the college and DM is always talking about our "shady" neighborhood. They live in a "upper income" sub division and in the 5 years they have lived there, there have been 6 murders ( 3 random) and have had 2 different bank robbers found hiding there. I just smile and shake my head when she starts in on me.

I have a hard time "forgiving and forgetting." When things like that are said I can never really feel the same about the person.

Of course, that makes me wonder what thoughtless things I've stupidly said to others that they remember forever!
