Another wart thread

I know there was quite a long thread about wart removal and home remedies a while back, and the one I tried was the apple cider vinegar. It worked really well on what I would call the traditional wart, like the cauliflower top. Turned it black and fell off.

But my son also has what I would call flat warts. They're small, flat and several are clustered together. The apple cider vinegar doesn't seem to have much affect on these. There doesn't appear to be any black seeds surfacing like the other warts.

Anyone ever have this type of wart and can recommend anything to get rid of them?

Be careful! My daughter had what looked like a wart for almost 3 years. We tried everything and not one doctor wanted to mess with it. Well finally I found a doctor to have it removed. When pathology came back it shocked our community (including the doctors). It came back that the wart looking thing was in fact melanoma. Going years un detected, my 5 year old now has to go through chemo because the cancer has spread. We too tried home remedies, freeze off etc and nothing helped. now my daughter is missing about4x4 inches from her foot. Now I am not saying that your child has this but I do recomend getting your child to the doctor.

Oh, how terrible. I don't think I've ever heard of melanoma on a foot. I always think of that on the face. Prayers to you and your daughter for a full recovery.

Actually my son has this on his nose, and the dermatologist has frozen it twice, but they keep coming back in a ring around where he froze it. I've given up on that method.

He had a regular-looking wart on his hand that the apple cider vinegar took care of really great. I had one too with the same results. I too have some of these flat warts on my hand, and it just doesn't seem to respond to the vinegar treatment.

Normally melanoma is caused by excessive sun exposure over years which I doubt is the case in a 5 year old child so where it is was not important in terms of where most are found. Most melanomas are either on the chest or legs or the face. Actually on men, chest is the most common spot and women it's legs. My DH had it almost 4 years ago on his chest. He has a nice scar now. Fortunately it was very small, looked kind of like a pimple and was only found because he went in for something else and the dermatologist noticed it. It was very thin and had not spread at all. He is completely cancer free and has been since it was removed. Just go to a dermatologist for a wart and they can take care of it. My DS (24) has had two removed by a dermatologist and it was easily handled. You need to make sure it really is a wart. If it doesn't have the cauliflower appearance, don't treat it yourself because you could be wrong.

Yes it was very odd one to be found in a child and two to be on the foot! We went years treating it as if it were a wart, then we thought mabe it was a boil or infestation of some sort. :confused3 It was a red bump, symetrical but grew over the years. So now instead of having one scar she has 4. One is where the took the rest of the cancerous tissue out (shaped like a rectangle) on her foot, then there is a piece on the top of her foot (shaped like a triangle) that was skin graphed because of the shortage of skin for the other side of the foot. She was also cut in her thigh and abdomin to remove the lymph nodes. Thats why now I am so paranoid for others to try home remedies because you never know what it could be. Your best bet is to get to a dermatologist and get it removed. This way they can send it out to be biopsied.

Two of my kids have something called molluscum contagiosum, that looks like what you describe. The doctor first thought my son had a light case of chickenpox because the bumps were kind of clear and slightly raised. But as time went on they didn't go away and started to look like warts. Then my 3 year old got them on her neck. They spread and according to the literature if left alone they will resolve themselves in about a year. We went to the dermatologist and she prescribed a cream and oral tagamet, which is actually for reflux, but has been shown to be effective in treatment of molluscum. We have been treating it for about 3 weeks and nothing has changed with my son. But my daughter's "bumps" have gotten really inflamed and blistery looking. So we had to stop the cream. I'm hoping when the blistery scabs go away, the bumps will go with them. The dermatologist says that they can get them from swimming pools, daycare, other kids, etc. They are pretty contagious. Good luck.

Take your child to a podiatrist. Warts on the bottom of your feet are nothing to mess with. I just went through 4 treatments of having them 'burned off' and they did not go away. I just had them surgically removed on Thursday. It's incredibly painful and I'l be happy when they all gone!

I think I need to find a new dermatologist. I really don't like the one I've taken my son to. He talks so fast I can't understand him, and he never really told me what these warts were called or anything.

He just wants to freeze them. No other option given for the ones on my son's nose. He froze the one on his finger, and it came back. Used the apple cider vinegar and it was gone in a couple weeks. And no, he didn't recommend that. I read about it here on the DIS.

For the poster who was asking about the vinegar, soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and tape it to the area. It will begin to turn black on top, and eventually will fall off. Usually doesn't take real long. Keep the cotton ball not much bigger than the wart area or it will really irritate the skin around it.

My DD had a number of warts on her hands and fingers, no one wanted to hold hands with her. Her doctor also prescribed the oral tagamet, which takes a few weeks to work, but it worked wonderfully. Doc said she had too many to freeze off, he didn't want her hands to scar. Stick with the tagamet a while longer. Warts are a virus and go through a cycle. THe tagamet was a great solution for us.

I just noticed a wart on my DS9's pinky finger about a month ago. He didn't want to show it to me, but I saw it when I was cutting his nails. I think he got it when we went to Ocean City MD over Mother's Day. He said he didn't think he had it before then. We go to the dr. on Wednesday for a well-visit and will take care of it then. This kid picks up all of that kind of stuff...ringworm, warts, etc. YUCK!!

How would you use apple cider vinegar to remove warts on fingers? I have never heard of this method and would love an all natural, safe, and effective method for this! TIA :worship:

I have a pretty good wart removal trick. My ds had one on his hand when he was 5 and the doctor told us this trick.

Soak the area to soften the wart. Then take a clean emery board and rub the area gently. Apply the wart remover and cover with a band-aide. Do this everyday until the wart it gone.

It worked for my son and he hasn't had one since that was over 2 yrs ago.

My oldest DS had this horribly. Took him to not Mr. nice Ped. and he said he had warts and to just get over it----he had about a dozen small spots on the back and side of his knee. Well we waited another week when another dozen spots appeared. When it was all said and done 4 treatments over 7 months (at dermatologist) he had about 70 spots either removed withed needle (did this twice with numbing cream) loved this Dr. but she decided left the practice, treated with acid (YES!! did not see that one again either), and then treated with cream. The cream finally cleared it all up. That was a long road.

DD has several warts on her hand, but she swims everyda--do you think the apple cider vinegar will still work?

My son is dealing with molluscum contagiosum now. I believe it got it from a heated swimming pool while we vacation in NC in Feb. That is when I noticed it starting to pop up in clusters on his abdomen. I let it go for awhile since I read that they can just go away on their own but since it traveled to his neck- I took him to the dermatologist and he prescribed Retin A for them..

My friend 2DC had molluscum contagiosum. It is very contaguis and you need to be careful about their friends getting it.

It spreads by contact. You need to keep them covered with band aids etc. so it does not spread around their body and to other children.

To use the Apple Cider Vinegar:

Soak a small piece of cotton ball in vingear, place on the wart and wrap with 1st aid tape--use overnight for several days until the wart goes away (it usually falls off). I used it for a couple days even after the wart fell off. It worked better on my son's plantar warts than the liquid wart remover we had used. Also, it helps to use an emery board to file down the top of the wart so the vinegar gets in there. It stings for a second or two but not unbearable. Don't use that emery board on anyone else as it contains the wart virus!

Do you think I could use this remedy on my dog? Is Apple Cider Vinegar safe for his leg. I took him to the vet and the vet said he would have to be sedated to have it removed. Since he had just had ear surgery the vet wanted to hold off for a while.

The wart doesn't bother my dog but it really skeeves me out! :scared: I would love to try a natural remedy but I want to make sure it's safe for my dog?

ETA: I just got off the phone with my vet and he said go for it. Thanks for the tip!

aldara (perscription) works. They come in packets. You use a needle to put a tiny hole in the packet of cream and use sparingly on the MC. Keep the needle there to keep the cream from drying out. This stuff is liquid gold in cream form:faint:
The biggest MC is the mother so to speak so if you can dry that one it stops the virus (you will see smaller ones by the mother). The ped will tell you it will go away on its own but it could take years and it does spread. If you treat them right they go away in a few months. The virus only travels down so if you get them on your stomach they will end up on your legs likely. I am suprised that your son's went up but maybe that is where it started? Or he got reinfected? The virus can live on a wet towel so no sharing towels or clothing with the person infected. MC looks like a pimple with a volcano shape, the ooze is the contagious part and should be covered with a bandage. I got it from a family member and since I recognized it right way I treated the "mother" and I was able to stop the virus in a week. The Aldara is $300 without insurance tho:worried: It's made by 3M go figure.

OP I heard that duct tape works for warts.

My dermotologist put one drop of some homepathic stuff on my DD wart and it went away in a week.

If you have insurance just bypass the ped and go to the dermotologist.
