Has anyone heard of Disney buying several hundred acres of land on Vancouver Island, BC? Could there be a plan for a new resort hotel? Seems like a lot of land for a resort, and anything else is seems pretty unlikely too. The 'source' is not particuarly reliable, but thought I would check with those in the know.

Everything I have ever read seems to indicate they would never again build a DVC resort off-site of an existing Disney park property eg;WDW, Disneyland, etc. They just haven't seen the sales at Vero and Hilton Head like the sell outs at Boardwalk and Wilderness Villas and soon Beach Club.

It seems that often when there's a large land transaction and the name of the buyer isn't immediately known, there's a rumor that it's Disney.

Alas, Disney would be building dozens of parks, resort hotels, and Disney Vacation Clubs throughout Texas, Missouri, other states, and various provinces of Canada if these rumors were true.

Perhaps, some day, Disney will actually go ahead with a third North American location -- but I would expect it to be in a more heavily populated area, such as the East Coast or Texas. I wouldn't expect it from current Disney executive management.

And I agree the the future of DVC appears to be limited to WDW on-site locations, where disney has "free land" and a genuine marketing advantage over other timeshare debelopers.

Maybe the weather is nice year around in BC, but it sounds cold. I would think disney would only build in the future in a area of the country where they could have year-round operations. I wonder if they would build a another park staeside because i wonder if they could buy the property cheap enough like in orlando and if they could get the local/state governments to give them all the rights they have in Orlando with the Reedy Creek district. I know alot of communities would throw money at disney to lure them but i wonder if they would get the blank check they got in FL.

I think if Disney were to build off-site again they would pick an area with an estabilished tourist base. Something like Niagara Falls, Cedar Point, Branson Mo. , Grand Canyon, etc. Maybe build a combination mega resort/DVC complex, complete with a SAB type pool area. HH and VB might be beautiful resorts, but the area doesn't have the needed tourist draw to make them worthwhile.

I don't think a park is viable, but a hotel/resort *might* fit. Again, I don't really think its true, and 'Disney' is an easy answer to an anonymous purchase. However, Vancouver Island is quite accessible, is a popular tourist draw, especially for eco-tourism and land is cheap if you're buying with the US$. Just for reference, it does have excellent weather year round, and is generally sunnier than Oregon and Washington. (it's a zone 8, like Lousiana, Georgia and South Carolina, while Florida and coastal California are zone 9/10).

Disney tried 2 different locations in the mid atlantic and were rejected. Va. in the area of Patomic Mills and in Gettysburg Pa. Both area according to press reports did not want the disney crowds or to kneel down to the great Disney god and make the changes that disney was asking for. With their money and not disney's :smooth: :smooth:
