So sorry for the repeat but I have a question regarding upgrading my 5 day Park Hopper passes that I purchased through AAA and I was hoping someone here would have the answer.

I called WDTC and was told that when I upgrade the Hoppers at that time I would indeed lose the Enchanted Fastpass option. OK, I figured that I would just upgrade on the last day and all would be good right? Well, they told me that would work however I would only get at credit of the remaining day ($169.00 / 5 = $33.80) towards my new AP. Does this sound correct? I was hoping to get the value of the pass ($169.00) applied to the AP cost and have the date of the AP retro back to the first day of Hopper usage. That is how the upgrade would be done at WDW.

So - does anyone here have any experience with this? HELP!

Thanks so much!

I have not done this yet but I am sure that is not correct. I have read dozens of posts from people who have done this that indicate that you will receive full credit for the amount paid for the hopper pass, and that the AP will be issued as starting on the first day you used the hopper.

Thanks for the quick reply! I agree with you, this cannot possibly be right, but I was hoping to hear from someone that has actually done this to confirm. I know I have done exactly this at WDW, but I have not done this at DLR (yet). The lady at WDTC was very sure :confused3 of her info.

Anyone else? Has anyone done this successfully?

Thanks!

I would check when you get there with people at guest services or the ticket booths, or even inside at the AP processig center. They will be able to tell you the current procedures. We were going to upgrade our APs one time, and the policy was one way (pro rated based on how much time you had left and your ap started with that date you upgraded). 2 months later when we decided to go ahead and do it, they had changed the policy to keep the original date, and charge you the difference in original prices.

DL policys change all the time, so even it worked one way for someone today, doesn't mean it will work the same way for you tomorrow.

When upgrading from any form of admission media to any other:
1. The upgrade must cost more than the original.
2. You receive a full credit of the ammount you purchased for, but in the case of upgrading to an Annual Pass it will expire one year from the first day you used your ticket. (Say I go on a 5day hopper pass toady and upgrade on my fifth day, and I payed $125 for the ticket, I can upgrade to any pass that cosets over $125 and recieve that as acredit, but my expiration date would still be one year from today).
3. You will loose any of the extra benefits once you upgrade (i.e. Enhanced FastPass, etc.) in most cases, but since AP's can now book trips through the Travel Co. to the hotels and get the same benefits without purchasing additional admission there are ways that they could let you keep it for the rest of your stay, so ask at the AP Processing Center as thier the ones that will know best.

The AP processing center is at the Bank of Main Street. Right side of Main St. as you are heading into the park

An update (with DVC info)

I did exactly what I planned on doing on the last day of our trip. I upgraded our $169 Hoppers to APs with the full credit of $169.00 towards the AP price with the date retro back to the first day we used the hoppers! :cool1: So for those wanting to do that - it worked like a charm :goodvibes

HOWEVER - for those wishing to use the DVC discount on the AP upgrade be warned that when we upgraded we were told by the AP processing center that you had to go back outside of the park to the ticket window and purchase your AP there. They were the only ones who did DVC discounts. Well, OK then - so back outside we go (after standing in a line to get into Disneyland AND another at the AP center). Since, as advised earlier in the week we waited until we were ready to leave on the last day there to upgrade so we would not lose out on the enchanted fastpasses, it is no so late that only one ticket booth is open. I have no idea what would have happened if all were closed. This was around 10:00 PM at night. So - we wait in the ticket booth line, only to be told (quite rudely I may add) that Disneyland does NOT honor ANY DVC discounts! WHAT? After some convincing, the lady finally decided to "let me have the discount" :earseek: :cheer2: So, after quite some time purchasing the tickets it was BACK IN LINE to get into Disneyland and then BACK in line AGAIN at the AP processing center where all went smoothly.

So - basically my long story is for DVC members to go outside FIRST and bring a print out from the website with you about the discount  :cheer2: other than that all went as planned! :cloud9:

Isn't there somewhere in DD that you can do this. I thought the WDTC had an office there? Man I hope the rules become more clear before my trip. I was also planning on doing the upgrades for my family after using EE. If anybody finds out please let us know. :confused3

Thanks for that info Deb! That's exactly what I may do in October. Just to be sure. . . you only paid 20 bucks for the upgrade from a 5 day hopper?

Yup! $20 bucks! A great deal :cool1: Just remember to bring your print out since they do not seem well trained on DVC discounts and you may want to start out outside at the ticket window and then go in to the AP processing center. Of course, by Oct they may have it all worked out so that they can do everything inside.

This was a Deluxe AP with some black out dates btw.

Hope this helps and ENJOY YOUR TRIP!

so the purpose of doing this is to get the "enchanted fp"? is that it? and EE too? or does any hotel guest get EE?

thanks !!

DVC Daisy,
When we upgraded our passes a month ago, I started outside the park and was given one of those blank looks when I asked about the DVC discount. I was directed inside DL (to the bank) to do the upgrade transaction.
At the bank inside DL, they honored the DVC discount price for the upgrade (I did have to show them my print out of DVC discounts). We did my upgrade to Premium on our first day and DH and DS's to deluxe on our last day--each time, I did have to show the print out/DVC membership card/id with our addresses on it.....
When they made you go outside the park again, was it to purchase a brand new deluxe AP at the DVC price?

All admission media from one day one park tickets up to premium annual passes get (have access to) Fastpass. I believe what is being mentioned here is the enhanced FP that is available to those who purchase a package through AAA that includes hotel accomidations at one of the 3 Disney run hotels.

EE is available for ONE DAY to anyone who purchases a 3-day hopper plus pass, only available through advance purchase. In addition those staying at one of the Disney run hotels have EE available to them each night of their stay (with vaild park admission, of course).

Too Funny DC,

I got the exact same blank look INSIDE the park and a "we don't honor that anywhere at Disneyland" OUTSIDE. The lady outside was very rude. And very sure that DVC discounts were not available anywhere in Disneyland  I am sure that all of the Guides there would have loved to hear that! The lady inside was a bit better but totally clueless. Go figure. I am sure it would have been easier if I had my print out with me, but it was in the car at the time. And when I went outside it was to upgrade to a deluxe AP, just like you. Not to buy a brand new one.

And for those asking, yes we did this to get the enhanced fastpasses which were priceless!

Thanks for the info, I am printing out my DVC info as we speak so we can upgrade our park hoppers to Deluxe's! I would have never thought to do this before reading this thread because one assumes they know the policies!
