Friday, she had a bone marrow biopsy done, after we met with the onocologist (who seems like a good guy, BTW
). They're hoping to get her scheduled for CT-scans and something called a PET scan later this week, so that by the end of this week, they hopefully have everything figured out. Apparently, from what I've gathered:
1. The bone marrow biopsy will tell them if the lymphoma is in the bone marrow (obviously
)
2. The CT-scans will show whether the cancer is localized in her chest area or spread to other areas of her body, and
3. The PET-scan will tell them whether or not other slightly larger than normal lymph nodes are cancerous or normally functioning.
If the cancer is localized and early-stage (Stage 1), they may be able to get away with only doing radiation, otherwise it will be either a combo of chemo and radiation or solely radiation. They're estimating Nicole will start treatments around the second week of Jan.
