Another TSA? 3oz of anything in a container?

Ok, so I found clear, plastic 3oz containters. Does anyone know if I can fill them with my shampoo, conditioner, gel, etc or do I have to pay a fortune for the travel size stuff?

You can fill them and pack them in the magical plastic quart size ziplock bag. However, there is no way to tell in advance whether the TSA checker will allow them on the plane. :confused3 There are more and more reports that individual airports are requiring "original" containers.

No, you can't use them. Yes, you'll have to spend a relative fortune for the qualifying sizes in labeled containers. But chances are the prices of the products aren't much higher than the prices of the containers you bought. Return the containers; buy actual products.

Too, think about what/how much you will actually NEED in your carry-on luggage.

There is no rule requiring original containers. However, there is a rule that TSA agents can make up whatever rule they want on the spot. There are many reports of agents making up an original container only rule.

If the containers have an easy to read permanent volume label (like an embossed 3 oz) you'll probably manage to get through. If not, it's anyone's guess whether or not you will.

Walmarts have a row of travel sized items most only cost $1 or so. I use them to try products before I buy them or to have an extra set to keep at the office. (Sometimes I stay far too many hours at the office)

They are all 3 oz or less so they can go on a plane.

:lmao: I couldn't agree more!
Recently in Seattle, a TSA "agent" argued that my wife wouldn't need her clearly labeled liquid medication during the flight. I told him he wasn't a doctor and she would indeed need it during the flight. When I asked for the supervisor, he said the medicine would be ok, but it was HIS discretion. :furious:

Alternately, buy the cheapest travel size whatever you can find. Or, if for some reason you are staying at a hotel, save the free shampoo bottle. You really should use an original container. (Only because, as others have said, unmarked containers have a much higher risk of being confiscated.) However, there is no reason the stuff in the container has to match the label.

Right, to echo others, in my experience its better to have a clearly marked "XXX Brand shampoo 3oz" bottle than a clear plastic travel bottle filled with shampoo. It dosent' matter what brand of shampoo is in the bottle but if you make it easier on the TSA agent (ie shampoo in here, 3 oz, clearly marked) it will be easier on you.

So, IMHO to save yourself potential hassle, go to the CVS or Wallmart and get the cheapest shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash travel size you can find, empty it, rinse it and then fill it with your preferred brand. Put it all in a quart size ziplock and then don't forget it has to go in a bin separately (as my mil did).
