Another treadmill question - Do I need a mat?

I just ordered a tm. Due to budget - had to go with a Proform instead of a high-end brand. It is one of the nicer ones that Proform makes, and it has shocks on the deck. I am wondering if I really need a mat for underneath it. It will be on carpeted floor. I wasn't sure if the purpose of the mat was to protect the floor or to add cushioning for protecting my joints??? Thanks for any input! :wave2:

but we have a tm and it was no question - salesman just said "a a mat" will add $$ (don't remember now). I am thinking at the gym I used to go to - there were no mats - unless those machines were just such a higher quality that one was not needed.

Maybe you could just telephone a speciality store and ask them for the input.

I don't know if this will help you...

But when I bought my TM, I asked if one was necessary and if so, what was it's purpose. Not sure if this is true, but I was told that in case of grease marks---I had old carpet that was getting removed for our terrazzo to get refinished, so it was a non-issue. The salesman mentioned nothing about better cushion for me.

HTH.
