Another transfer question concerning Use Year

We have a contract with an October Use Year. I was thinking about having a transfer into it during September. Since there is one transfer alllowed per Use Year, that would be just before the 2005 Use Year ends, and that would allow us to do another transfer in the 2006 Use Year if we needed to.

But now I'm worried that these transferred points would take on that Use Year and then expire at the end of September. Is that what would happen? Would they take on the Use Year of the account that they are transferred in to?

I thought I had this whole transferred thing figured out, but I'm now worried about this problem. Should transfers only be done at the beginning of a Use Year instead of at the end?

Thanks.

Are you trying to transfer points in even when you don't need them for a specific reservation? Not sure why you would want to do that. Sounds like maybe you didn't buy enough points in the first place.

The way it currently stands, the transferred points would assume your Use Year month and expire (although they can possibly still be banked). MS will normally require points to be transferred into the same Use Year they came from- so you would need to have 2006 UY points transferred into your 2006 UY and 2007 UY points transferred into your 2007 UY- regardless what "month" the original Use Year had.

I'd sure clarify with MS whether you would be able to bank points transferred into your account in September as otherwise they will expire on September 30.

Good luck! :)

We're in the planning stages for a big family trip, a one-time thing. I think it's the one transfer per year that has me concerned. I was thinking if we transferred in before the Use Year was up, then if we had to do another transfer next year, we would be safe. Then I started second-guessing myself on that. Our POS didn't have a limit on the number of transfers, only stating that they could be one way only during a Use Year. That's what has me concerned now.

Doc, I guess I wasn't thinking that it had to be same Use Year to same Use Year. I was just trying to think of a way to get around the one transfer per year rule before the new Use Year started.

You won't likley be able to get around the one-per-year policy - but you could do what you suggested as long as MS will allow the points transferred in Setpember to be immediately banked. That way they would be usable in your October 2006 Use Year and you could also have more transferred in during your 2006 Use Year- anytime after October 1. Just verify with MS that you will be allowed to bank the points transferred into your account before the end of your current Use Year.

I have been told on at least three occasions by MS (including the manager) that transferred points do not follow the normal banking deadlines nor limit, such as percentages. Last year, I was allowed to bank transferred points after the normal banking deadlines and they did not count toward the percentages allowable....but I did confirm this three times with MS.
