Another Trading RCI into DVC question...

I have had them call me when a smaller room became available for my search dates. Once I accepted it, upon check in the resort gave us a Two bedroom ( which was my search) This was in Grand Cayman.
This will absolutely not happen at DVC.

RCI allows reimbursement of the exchange fee and the guest certificate fee, but that is all. Anything more violates RCI's terms of service.
Brian, as I read it, technically even that is a violation, they simply elect to look the other way. I believe this was essentially "Marge's" statement (going by memory) on the now defunct RCI board on TUG.

Here's the quote from "Madge":

And the relevant bit for those who don't want to click over to TUG:

It is a violation of RCI's Terms and Conditions of Membership (Section 8) to rent, sell, barter, or auction, a deposited week or confirmed exchange, even if a Guest Certificate is purchased. Violation of this guideline could result in the termination of your RCI membership.

You may give a vacation to a friend or family member via the RCI Guest Certificate; however, you may not receive any compensation beyond the price of the exchange and Guest Certificate fees. Compensation includes anything of value, even another exchange vacation.

Emphasis "Madge's". (For those who don't know, "Madge" was an alias used by a representative from RCI who "officially" posted information on TUG. It is entirely possible that RCI's position has changed on this matter, and now even the exchange fee/guest certificate fee cannot be recovered.)

That's as I remember it. If you read both the RCI terms and conditions and the disclosure guide, there are no exceptions to the limitations on rentals. That's why I said that technically anything of value was in violation but that RCI would look the other way generally for the direct fees.

I can confirm this. I have read on other posts that you can charge some fees like the exchange fee, so I called to confirm. THe customer service agent told me if you charge more than the exchange fee, you will forfeit your exchange as well as your membership.

Hi there, new to the boards and had a question about rci and disney dvc's. My sister just purchased into rci and I do not think she quite understands it. She is telling me that because she belongs to rci that she can get a week at any of the DVC's for $259 and that she does not need to use any of her rci points, does anyone know if this is true? It just does not sound right to me. Thanks in advance for any of your input.

It is not true. I wish it was as I own both DVC and RCI. You can trade into DVC with RCI, usually on the point side of RCI (they have a weeks and points program depending on your RCI resort). It's tough to make the trade, but I have seen some DVC properties come up. For a week the RCI fee is $139 plus you need to use your points. The $259 for any week at any resort sounds like a Disney Fairy Tale. If you want more info please find out if she bought a week or points resort and I'd be happy to help you figure it out.

if she recently purchased and she is within the cancel rime--usually 5-7 days--sometimes more/less, depending on the state, she should really consider canceling right away until she better understands about timeshares. If they told her she can get DVC for $259, I wonder what else was told or misunderstood. She should look at TUG2.NET (a timesahre usesrs group with lots of helpful info) and find out what to do to cancel. If you don't do it exactly as stated and within the time frame, you can't cancel. Make sure she gets a receipt of mailing from the post office--it's the date mailed, not when the resort gets it.
IF it is too late to cancel, then she should still look at tug2.net to understand what she bought and how to use it best. It is possible to trade into DVC. you either need a lot of points or a very good trader, esp. for prime seasons, but it can be done. Elaine

Theoretically it's possible but not likely or practical. RCI rents excess inventory and other inventory collected specifically for rental. While some options will go as low as $159 (I think that was the #) total without an exchange (recent specials), "Extra Vacations" for DVC are going to be much more when available.

They may have given her an RCI Extra Vacations certificate as a "signing bonus". We got one with our Worldmark Ownership at sign up. It's a certificate to use in RCI weeks for $259 and no points. It's a one time thing, not an all the time thing.
