Although not involved with it today our station two engine and crew and the ambulance from our station responded to the call all firefighters hate, a child not breathing.
On scene they were meet by a distraught father holding his three month old child who was pulseless and not breathing. Although all members knew the child had been already taken by God they made the effort to try and bring him back but once at the hospital it was to no avail.
He was pronounced by the hospital staff. It has been a quiet day here and no other calls have come in and we go about our buisness and wait for the next call but we've all had a little bit taken away from us again.
I'll go home tomorrow and hug all my kids ages 11, 9, 6 and 1 a little longer but they won't know why and that's the way I like it.
Please when you tuck your kids in tonight give them an extra hug and kiss...

:hug:God Bless you and all firefighters. Thanks for all you do.

Im so sorry to hear this--i hate hearing about calls like that..
I remember when I was younger and my dad would come home and give me an extra hug and would never tell me why...now i know it was when he had one of those calls....

Be safe

My thoughts are with the family.

I am from Groton and thank all the local emergency crews for their hard work and dedication.

I don't know how yall do it. My DH (a firefighter also) comes home and tells me about his day at work. I think he has only had one involving a small child (that didn't end well) It was before we were married though. He said it was just horrible. (2year old caught in crossfire, 2 idiots fighting over a beer)

God Bless that family of the sweet baby.

prayers to all involved FM17

I think about you every time I pass the station. Not sure which one you are at, but I like knowing y'all are there for us when we need you!

:sad1:

Makes me want to wake my boys up and kiss and hug them.

Thanks for what you do and being there for those families.

My DH is a paramedic, and I know how hard it is on him when they have calls like that. Thank you for all you do, our thoughts and prayers are with you guys.

How sad. My son is a paramedic and those kind of calls are always hard on him. I'm proud of the job you guys do.

My dad used to be a cop. When I was younger he kept that part of his job away from me, but there were nights/days he would come home and I knew by the way he hugged me.

When I got older I would see these reports in the paper or on the news and I knew that this was what my dad dealt with. For years I wondered how these people did it, how they saw the worst and yet were able to go back day after day...

Finally I asked. The answer? "Because for every one person we can not help, there are 10 we have. I go back for those 10 because they need us."

I'm so glad that there are people like you who are brave enough to do this job. Thank you so much for risking your life to save the lives of others!

I also don't see how you all do this job but I'm so glad that you do! Thank you.

And thanks for the reminder that we should hug those we care about. You just never know.

My best bud is a emt and today they got called to a car that got hit by a train, and the kid in the car lived. Heard about it from another freind who was one of the witnesses

I can't imagine, how heartbreaking :sad1:. Counting my blessings as I take so much for granted. God bless this poor family and many thx to our courageous fire fighters.

Thank you for all you do for us!

There is a family at our church who lost their 2 year old two years ago. He died of the flu while taking a nap. The firemen that responded to the call did everything they could, but the little boy had already gone to be with Jesus. A year after the little boy's death, the family took dinner and treats to the firehouse that responded to the call. They truly appreciated their extra mile service, even though the little guy was already with the Lord by the time the firemen arrived.

So thank you for all you do, and may the Lord protect you as you put yourself in harms way.

Another family that thanks you with all our hearts for all that you do!
The one and only time we've ever had to call 911 for our DD was when she had an acute croup attack and literally turned blue. It was so frightening as a parent to be so helpless and we did put all our faith in the EMTs to be able to help us.
I'm so sorry for the loss of the little one and for other losses you see, and are affected by. But thank you for keeping with it, it means the world of difference to all.

My DH was a volunteer EMT for his small home town just after high school. Almost 20 years later, he is still affected by some of his harder calls. If he had one that involved a child he hasn't told me, but he did tell me of one that I know haunts him a bit. Too graphic to post, but they knew the person traped wouldn't make it, so they rigged up a way for the trapped man to speak to his wife so he could say goodbye (some sort of hook up with walkies and a phone, this was before cells were wide spread). It was an amazing thing that they were able to do for this couple.
