Another ticket upgrade question (sorry)

There are just too many options, and my head is spinning!

The plan is to either purchase tickets from Undercover Tourist and book a hotel offsite OR purchase one of the Universal Partner Hotel packages with tickets. In either case, I plan to upgrade to 3 seasonal passes and 1 preferred pass while we are there (for the parking benefits).

I just got off phone with a very nice lady from UT who told me that the PROMO tickets they have listed cannot be upgraded at all. I had no idea, so very glad I called! I can still purchase the 2 days plus 2 days free base tickets and they would be upgradable, she says.

Which option would be better, in your expert opinions? I think I might get by cheaper buying tickets and booking a room on my own, but we would lose the extra hour in the morning. Do you think it's worth it? The trip is early December, probably a low-crowd time.

I don't stay in the hotels since I live in Orlando but you are right...early December is low crowd time so staying onsite is not a necessity. I think you would be fine staying elsewhere during that time.
