Having just got back from WDW (and SW, UO, IOA, and BGT) I had the opportunity to take notice of Happy Holidays vs. Merry Christmas.

Sorry folks, there is no war on Chrsitmas, at least when it comes to Florida theme parks and the restraurants in the area. I didn't see or hear "Happy Holidays" even once. Christmas on the other hand was everywhere.

In fact the most rude thing I now seen on the subject was the number of t-shirts I've now seen people wearing going about "the reason for the season" as so on. :rolleyes1

Just curious, why is it rude to have a reason for the season T-shirt? I happened to be at Disneyland during gay days and their were some T-shirts being worn that were pretty naughty, but I wasn't offended and didn't think they were rude .

I've noticed a lot more "Merry Christmas" this year too! I've also noticed a lot more inclusiveness. When my niece and I went to the mall on Saturday night, the local Chabad Center was doing a candlelighting service for Chanukah. We really enjoyed it. I won't be home for the beginning of Kwanzaa, but I'm hoping that something is done for that as well.

I don't think there's a war on Christmas, but I think there is a movement in this country to get all religious people to keep their religious practice inside their homes with the blinds drawn. If we are a truly diverse nation and we want to celebrate that, then everyone should be free to speak about their faith openly, to wear religious garments or jewelry and not to be insulted because their faith is important to them.

I will say I think both ends of the spectrum of the "war on christmas" is silly. I think it is ridiculous that some places are not allowed to say merry christmas and I think it is just as ridiculous that now some people feel like they can't say happy holidays or seasons greetings without being judged. My friend has a really pretty gift box that she thought of using for her grandmothers gift, her mom suggested that she not use it because it might offend her grandma as it says seasons greetings on it. I said I thought it was silly as seasons greetings is not a sentiment thought up last year for the politically correct christmas.

I have a feeling that people would certainly call a shirt going on about the other side of the issue rude. Well then the same goes for these shirts that are designed to get in the face of those on the other side of the issue.

Maybe it's not rude, just really a sad statement about the people who wear them.

I've purposely been saying Happy Holidays hoping that someone blows a gasket. :teeth:

Merry Christmas Mike! Give me your address so I can send you my card with Jesus and his family on it!

and just in case.... ;)

That makes you just as small as anyone that would "blow a gasket".

i cant really see the arugment here, do u not like merry christmas...you would have a field day over here, everyone says merry christmas or happy christmas. Appart from the states never heard anyone say happy holidays.

Well we watched Mickey's Twas the Night Before Christmas at the MK on Saturday and we were wished "Happy Holidays". DH and I started snickering and I said good thing Bill O'Reilly wasn't there. Now in defense at the VERY end they did say Merry Christmas. I guess covering both bases. ;)

Oh please! :rotfl: :lmao:

What is it about deliberately provoking a reaction from someone do you find honorable or humorous? Unless you're a 16 year old kid deliberately trying to annoy adults-which is a 16 year old kid's job-it's no more mature than those who overreact to it.

Because if someone is so immature and blinded by Bill Reilly to actually get upset about me wishing them Happy Holidays with a smile on my face I fully intend to laugh at their stupidness. Please explain how saying Happy Holidays is annoying.

Well said.

I imagine all those saying Merry Christmas to others in the same way (including one already in this thread) are still good people. :rolleyes1

Ooooo. Thanks for reviving this debate which hasn't been run into the ground just yet. I think there are 2 or 3 DIS'ers who haven't weighed in yet. :teeth:

Yeah, but not too far. I'll go get those other threads and bump them for you, since you were blissfully unaware of them while at WDW. :stir:
