Another "there's nothing for kids at USO" thread

I am a fan of both sets of parks for different reasons. I do not have any kids, however I am keenly aware that I have seen small children having fun at BOTH Disney and Universal. Oftentimes when kids under the age of 6 are in a theme park, it's not all about how MUCH there is to do or how MANY rides there are, it's just being there on a ride or two. When my sister was little (we're 12 years apart), we brought her to Universal and put her on the Caro-seuss-el and when the ride stopped she wanted to go again (and again). Then we finally got her over to The Cat in the Hat and the same thing happened. My point is she would have been happy if we let her sit on those 2 rides all day long....she was too little to realize that there might be other things to do at those parks!

Now with an older child or a teenager, they are keenly aware that they "already did that" and need more things to do. They are running from attraction to attraction and keeping busy. And that's good, because Universal DOES have a ton of things for that age bracket.

I am never one to bash Disney. The pixie dust is definitely still there for me. I never compare Universal parks to the Disney parks. They to me are like comparing apples to TVs. Universal has it's own special feeling, like walking through Seuss Landing or Jurassic Park... But there is also nothing like walking up Main Street in the Magic Kingdom with old classic Disney music playing either. When I am in the mood to go to Disney, that's where I go. When I'm in the mood for Universal, I go there.

My personal feeling is that Universal or Warner Brothers or Six Flags or any of those parks will NEVER be Disney. Disney is built on a legacy of one man's dream. It goes way back to the beginning of when Walt Disney was a creative visionary. There is nostalgia, there are memories, there are fascinations with the Disney family and their legacy. Universal will never be able to compete with that. I'm not saying that everything the Disney companies do I approve of or understand but if you're looking at it from the parks standpoint then I do "get it". That being said, Universal put a LOT of thought into their parks as well, but as far as ever surpassing Disney, I just don't see that happening. I love Universal's parks and am very excited at what they've done over the years and I am really looking forward to seeing a permanent show of the Blue Man Group there. It proves that Universal is out there and wanting to be a major player.

I personally think that if Universal stopped worrying so much about what Disney is doing and tried some of their own unique ideas, that they'd have a better campaign to get people there. Universal just rolled out the "renewed pin trading campaign" to their employees. I'm sorry, that's just a jump on Disney's bandwagon and I think a poor attempt at it. Disney just has so much more to draw on when it comes to pin trading. Pin trading didn't do well at Universal to begin with, why would it now? Anyway, of course all of these are just my opinions.

Have a great day everyone!

Just FYI CivilTwilight,

The original question of the original OP was whether she should take her kids to Universal or Sea World during an extra day in her vacation. There never any question about whether or not they were going to WDW.

This isn't a who's better - Universal or Disney - thread :)

To me, there's only so many play areas that I, as an adult, could stand watching my kid play at.

I too like all the parks, but this made me chuckle. Do you want kids? If so, once you become a parent, you'd wade through a field of mud for hours looking for the ever elusive 4 leaf clover, if that's what they wanted to do. Those little guys have a way of working their magic on us that WDW & UO envy. :rotfl:

I started to respond to that thread, but what is the use. I bet most of the nay sayers haven't even been to USO

The commercial they are talking about doesn't even air anymore.

And yet how many threads are there from WDW addicts who complain that people don't understand why they love Disney parks? The husbands don't get it, their friends make fun of them, their neighbors laugh, and they only have the DIS for support.

Then why oh why can't they understand why some folks might really love the Universal parks, and go to them every year??? Aren't we entitled to the same understanding they are asking for themselves?

Well said!!

Personally we find USO offers us something totally different than WDW so they really can't be compared. We thoroughly enjoy both and couldn't imagine a trip to Orlando without doing both. Pixie dust...mummy dust...it's all good! :thumbsup2

Sadly there are those on the DIS who seem to think that anything non-Disney is heresy and the only way to be a Disney fan is to dump on anything else. Frankly we don't get it and think the people with that attitude are really missing out on a lot. :confused3

We almost got through another day without another bashing thread starting up. http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1362655 This one seems to think that "hating universal" is cute.

Since I'm not a thrill ride person there is no sense in bothering with Universal. It is ALL coasters right? It's just an amusement park anyway nothing like my beloved Disney. I've been told its just like six flags. No themeing to speak of and anything that may be appealiing to me has been ripped off from Disney anyway. Universal, huh, they really need to get a life!

^ You're scaring me.

Aren't we entitled to the same understanding they are asking for themselves?

Nope. We need a talking, oversized sewer-dwelling creature to gain legitimacy.

No, no that was an earlier thread, no wait it was a later thread, uh never mind, it was probably that thread.

On my last trip to WDW, I stayed at Wilderness Lodge. One night, we ate at the Whispering Canyon. There was a waitress that was telling little children to repeat what she said. "I will never ever ever ever go to" (long pause) "Universal Studios!" One of my favorite places was made fun of! If it's okay for WDW, to make fun of USO, why isn't it okay for USO make fun of WDW?:rolleyes1

What I find hysterically funny is that you're posting on the UNIVERSAL STUDIOS section of the disboards. I know that I am not interested in say issues dealing with biology...so I don't go the biology message boards.

If you don't like Universal studios, stay off the Universal Studios message boards!!! We are here to have discussions about helping each other out.

Ummm, that post was supposed to be sarcastic. Fan2CSkr is a huge USF fan and posts here all the time.

Fan2CSkr, Damo and Motherfletcher rule the Universal boards.
