I think I'm close to making a decision. I will probably be buying two contracts, a small one at BWV and a larger one at either OKW or SSR. I was wondering since these two are the largest DVC resorts, how do things like crowds compare to other DVC locations. In other words, because OKW and SSR have (or will have) so many more units, how does this effect things like check in, busses, the pool, restaurants in comparison to the other DVC resorts?
Thanks.

The only bad time to check in at OKW is when the DME bus arrives. Then there is a pretty long wait to check in. But they do usually have every checkin window with a CM at it. Never had a problem with a bus at OKW. And there are at least four pools there.

Check-in is most crowded, I agree, when a DME arrives. The only issue at the pool MAY be getting a chair when it is very busy. ;) We've never had significant issues with buses; they tend to run less frequently in mid-afternoon, but that is common at all resorts. There is one restaurant, Olivia's. We visit often, never make ADRs and rarely have a wait of over 10 minutes. (We usually visit right before the busiest part of summer season begins. I can't comment on a holiday or mid-summer visit.)

OKW and SSR may be the two largest DVC resorts, but they are still near the bottom of the list when compared to all Disney resorts.

OKW is the smallest Disney-owned resort on property. SSR, when complete, will still be one of the 3 or 4 smallest on property. IIRC, the Poly, Yacht Club and BWV/BWI are all about the same size as SSR. BC/BCV is larger, as are the WL/VWL, Contemporary, Grand Floridian, AKL and all of the moderate and value resorts.

I checked the number of rooms listed on Allears and found everything but OKW. I found a number of 709, but I know that the real number depends on how you count studios. The numbers I came up with were:

All Stars 5760
Pop 5760
Port Orleans 3048
Caribbean Beach 2112
Coronado Springs 1967
Yacht Club+Beach Club+BCV* (205) 1327
Animal Kingdom Lodge 1293
Contemporary 1000
Grand Floridian 900
Wilderness Lodge+VWL* (136) 864
Poly 847
Boardwalk Inn+BWV* (383) 761
SSR* 728
OKW* 709
Shades of Green 586

(Sorry about the numbers, the software won't let me arrange things in a more readable format. The numbers in parens (e.g. 205) are the DVC resorts attached to the hotels.)

To give you some idea of what those numbers mean, on the first day of "Free Dining" this year, Pop had more than 3,000 room check-ins in a single day...not people, rooms!

I'm glad I did that little exercise; now I know why OKW always seems so quiet and relaxing!

So if I'm arriving via ME and I don't want to hastle with the check in right then and since I won't have luggage really, I assume I could just skip check in and head out to a park or a meal and come back later?

Thanks. That helps to give some perspective. I remember checking in to All Stars in the off season and it was a nightmare.

We just spent 9 nights at OKW without a car, and the bus service was terrific! In fact, our only long wait was when we tried to take a bus from AK to AKL. We stood in line for around 30 minutes, and watched 2 OKW buses come and go during that time.

We checked in at 2:30 on a Saturday afternoon, and there wasn't any line at all. I walked right up to a CM.

I have been to SSR when it was pretty full. I doesn't seem full at all. For both of my stays I never saw my neighbors walk in or out of their room. In fact I never saw anyone come in our out of the rooms on my entire floor!!!!

Nice and quiet.

I own OKW and SSR and i have stayed at all the resorts including HH & VB. Never had a bad time and always felt as if my wife and i were the only ones there. Everything moves at disney including the parks as only DISNEY can do. buy and injoy, i am 65 and love disney every time i go which is often i live 80 miles from disney.
