Was just posting over on the food forum when it occured to me that we did this and thought I would share as it is another nice, cheap way to spread the pixie dust.

We always take with us the koolaid packs. At the hotel or resort I put several a night into the freezer, as well as some bottled waters. The next morning before leaving I pack these, as well as a few not frozen but chilled ones from the fridge into an insulated bag I got from Tupperware that is designed to hold 2 2-liter drinks. It holds nicely about 4 or bottled waters and 8 or 9 koolaid packs. We bring in a stroller so it's no trouble hauling this stuff around. The chilled drinks are nice about midmorning but then by mid afternoon the frozen ones are thawing, makes the koolaid kind of like a slushy.

Anyway, moving along to the "pixie dust" while waiting for the afternoon parade, it can get pretty warm and kids get bored and hot and start complaining. This year while at the MK (we were sitting on the bench at Liberty Square, right were the parade turns) there was a couple there and they had their grandkids with them. The little girl started complaining about being hot and thirsty and the grandmother kept telling her she had just had a bottled water and they weren't going to get another now and no she couldn't have a coke. I was getting DS a koolaid out and realized that we hadn't used any of them that day and we would have way more than we would drink so I asked the grandmother first if it was okay if they each had one and she said "oh sure". So we shared our koolaid packs with those two kids and they were happy and content until the parade started. The grandma was grateful and kept commenting on what a good idea that was, etc., etc. Cheap easy way to spread some magic as you can usually get a pack of 10 for $2 at Walmart which makes them $0.20 each.

Have fun and spread some magic :wizard:

What a wonderful, generous thing to do! Where were you when we were waiting for the parade? LOL :teeth:

That's a great idea, as long as you realize that there will be parents who won't allow their kids to take food or drinks from strangers. Someone had the same type of idea last year, and was disappointed that most of the kids she offered "Capri Sun" type drinks to, wouldn't take them because their parents said no. But it sounds like you did it right, asking the adult first, then the kids, instead of the other way around!

:earsboy:

Right, always ask the adult first and try to do it discreetly so that the kiddos are not disappointed if mom, dad, grandma, etc. says no. Have found though that when you have been sitting there with the people a while waiting and you have small ones there with you and you just got them one out of the bag, the adults don't think you are some strange person trying to approach their kids. Also I know some parents might not want the kids hyped up on the sugar from the drinks, etc. so it is always a good idea to ask the adult first. But I wouldn't take the drink out with the child right there and say "here is it okay if they have this". Then if the adult says no, the child is disappoited as well as upset with the adult for not allowing them to have it.

I would never just walk up to someones child and offer them something and would feel uncomfortable if someone approached my child in this way.
