Another "SHOW" buster!!

If Disney must paint during the day for whatever reason, why could they not MAKE it part of the show. Dress up the painters in the style of wherever they are painting. Also, if they are true castmembers and not contractors from some painting company, they can be trained to interact with the guests as they are doing their work. This may take a little bit longer, but this would keep the show for the most part and get critical work done during the day.

Painting in broad daylight!?!?!
I've got news for you,............they have been painting in broad daylight for years. You are just not there 24/7/365 to see what goes on all of the time.

Did you really think it was fairies, pixies or "Disney magic" and did it really detract that much from your overall experience.

This is no different from trash being emptied, tables being wiped, etc., during the day. It is all maintenance and upkeep.
WDW have been repainting at night up until the 90s
I saw day-time painting in the early 80's.

I think you are on to something...I would still let professionals do the painting, but if you have to do it...have a "show" that goes along with it at times...maybe a "clumsy" CM who is dressed up like he is there as part of the crew but goofs up (in some innocuous but funny ways)--I bet this little bit of magic would really go over well with people...there are other ways to incorporate some entertainment into the setting -using the "repairs" as a backdrop set --seizing opportunity, turning lemons into lemonade, etc...

Then you saw something that most people swear they never saw do during that time.

I didn't see the painters during the day while we were there Sept 2-8th. But we did, of course, see the crane. While I would've rather the crane not be there, it didn't upset me. We could really see a major difference between what was painted and what was not! Seeing that difference - bright beautiful new blues next to dull old blues really made it clear it was time to paint!

But this really jumped out at me. We could see the top of the Crystal Palace - what stuck out above the walls. It looked horrible! My goodness if everything has been allowed to get into such a state of disrepair it is shameful. I don't mean the paint, because most probably they had scraped off the old paint. I mean structural problems. It was fairly shocking to me. Things like broken wooden beams and rusted metal ones and I can't remember what all but it wasn't pretty.

I decided then if everything that was down for repairs needed it that bad, it was a small price to pay...and my family missed Haunted Mansion terribly. There were also a lost of things being reburbished in EPCOT: Malestrom, the towers at Italy and Canada...maybe more, can't remember right now.

Well maybe then the parks will be all pristine for my upcoming visits! :teeth: ;)
the painters wouldn't bother me that much. I have seen it in January and wasn't surprised in off season. Next time I may ask for a Wet Paint sign. ;)
That's the least of my worries.

I don’t doubt it. I agree. It is very sad that this type of thing goes on. And I also don’t doubt it’s been going on for some time now. I keep telling everyone that Ei$ner and Pre$$ler have been screwing around with the show for a long time now! Thanks for the back up!!

Did you really think it was fairies, pixies or "Disney magic"
OH YES!!! EVERYONE DID!! that was the charm, enchantment and MAGIC of the SHOW!! That, in a nutshell, IS the Walt philosophy!! That’s the whole reason the Magic Kingdom is on the second floor!! Brilliant, isn’t it? All that mundane and everyday “messy-stuff” hidden from view. Away from the SHOW!! And not interfering with the guest experience!! What a concept!! OH!! How I wish it were still in place!!

I saw day-time painting in the early 80's.
I think, as YoHo pointed out, you are mistaken!! Mid eighties, maybe. Late eighties, probably. Early eighties, NEVER!!!!

You know, painting the castle from a crane during the day is one thing, but I really can't see why they would have to paint poles on Main Street right next to the guests in the middle of the day? There's just really no excuse for it. That's just really very bad show, and I'm quite sure would not be difficult to do at night - just more expensive to pay the workers on the night shift.

Got a better one. While staying at POFQ last Oct (before they closed the resort), we opened our room door to find two CM's painting the ceiling above our door! We had to "excuse" ourselves to get out. We never understood why they were spot painting when they had to have known they were going to close the resort. Course, it already seemed closed at the time...

Whats next? Are they going to cut the grass in the Magic Kingdom during the day too? After all, I'm sure its cheaper.

Yes it is that big of a deal. These are the things that set Disney appart from other amusement parks.

This is Disney's reputation at stake here. I can remember hearing about the night time painting and landscaping sometime back in the 70's. (You'll never see a painter or someone cutting the grass at the Magic Kingdom.. they do all of that at night, out of view of guests. That way, the park always looks brand new but yet you never see anyone doing the upkeep) Its all part of the Magic! Oh well... chip chip chip

At least they are painting though.

TinkerbellRules - Seems like they were just WAITING for you to leave -- rushing you out the door even. But after staying at it's sister resort, I'm not surprised.
The last week of May we always saw grounds crew maintaining the gardens in Epcot. The F&G show was just wrapping up. But I did think that odd they were doing it during the day.
This wasn't a major disappointment by all means. But did make you feel like you were intrudung in their area, not to mention not taking pics while a gardener is pulling weeds. ;)
I recall when I saw it repeatedly that I felt like I was strolling through an outdoor mall. So it does take away *the magic* of the beauty.

At least if they are painting they could stroll on over to Tomorrowland and have at it there. In my opinion, from the last time I was visiting WDW, Tomorrowland needed the most maintenance. I figure, if they are gonna do it during the day, at least do it where they need it the most. I also still think they could at least try to make the painting part of the show if they need to paint during the day as well, but that seems way too creative and bothersome for those in charge these days at Disney.

No, it was September of 1982 to be exact. They were painting the posts on Main Street. I remember it because this was my first visit and I though it rather odd seeing this after all I had heard.

Again I say if you are not there 24/7/365 how do you know what goes on when you are not there.
