I just wanted to know if lenses were cheaper to purchase in the US than here?? AND, if so, any recommendations where to buy them from in Orlando..?

Many thanks... :thumbsup2

Hi
I'm not sure about cheaper, but I'd reccommend Ritz Camera, they are at several of the malls.
Don't go to the camera shops on the 192 or IDrive unless you have priced up the exact make and model you want before going in. don't let them talk you into a different make or model as the pricves can vary greatly.

Ritz also have a web site so you can look up what you are after to get a comparsion.

Paul always buys his camera bits and bobs in the US, and he usually goes to Best Buys (there is one near the Florida Mall and Mall at Millenia too) :)

Thanks Tony and Mandy!!!

Richard bought me an Olympus camera for Christmas last year and I love it but am a bit of a novice - and that really is an understatement. I'm so hopeless, I've just bought myself a Dummies Guide!!! Anyway, I was looking at adding a bigger lens and nearly died at the price of them!!! So thought there had to be a cheaper way.. Will check out that website, Tony.. :thumbsup2

Check out Walmart too. I was looking at Olympus Lenses earlier in the year on there - granted the one I looked at was only a little cheaper but the exchange rate was pants at the time so should be a bit better by now.

I've been meaning to go back and check myself again as Walmart can deliver to store so I thought I might just swing by and pick one up when I hit it up for essential supplies (read booze).

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Sorry I can't help but laugh at the thought of you actually using a camera.....I thought you just occasionally carried yours around for fun. :p Only kidding! ;)

I've bought a lens from Ritz camera's before. (although it was years ago & I can't remember if it was cheaper or not) We also bought a video camera from Amazon.com & had it delivered to the hotel. :thumbsup2

Sorry to hi-jack your thread, but it prompted me to go back and have a look again at them again for myself.

To my eyes this lens and this lens looks identical except for...well, yeah, price.

Can anyone tell me if this is the kind of size of deal that prompts other people to always buy their camera stuff in the US? That there really can be this much difference between the price or am I just being an idiot? It just sounds too good to be true...

Hijack away!!! :thumbsup2bThese are exactly the sort of things I want to know... ::yes:: They do look identical and that is crazily different in price...

I have bought from Ritz camera too in the Florida mall and it's always been cheaper than here!

I have the dummies guide for digital photography on my iPhone and iPad it's great it has all the setting for every occasion

I might ask the same question over on the DIS photography board - some of those guys really know their stuff and if anyone can figure it, they can!

While I can't remember the prices I do remember when I looked 6 months ago I worked it out as only being about £15 difference or so therefore wasn't really that big a deal but seeing from the comments there are old ones saying how they'd seen it for $270+ elsewhere (which after tax brings it more in line to what I remember from before) and also referring to different prices on the Walmart site so it obviously varies in price on occasion. Perhaps it's just some sort of super-special deal they have on it right now :confused3

Ok, it's been confirmed when I asked over on the Photography board - it's the same lens. Bargain!

Wow!!! So definitely worth checking for bargains then.. :thumbsup2 Good to know... I found that the lens I'm after is the same number in £££ as it is in $$$ so a decent saving there too. I just looked on Amazon.com...

Hurrah, so basically a third off! :thumbsup2 What type of lens are you looking at if you don't mind asking? Purely being nosy :)

I'm just crossing my fingers and toes that Walmart keep the lens at that price for about another week or so then I can safely order it to pick up when I'm there next month.

By the way, noticed from your sig that you're doing the repo cruise next Easter. I did West -> East the first year they experimented with the west coast sailings. I thought it was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G going through the Panama Canal - really is a memory will stick with me forever and definitely a good excuse for splashing out on a lens for your camera! :cool1:

Doh! Or is that repositional the one that goes up to Alaska? I'm an idiot, sorry.

Though that's still going to be amazing and needs that lens ;)

I'm after a micro four thirds zoom lens - and have just this minute discovered that the Olympus and Panasonic ones are compatible, with the Panasonic ones being around half the price of the Olympus ones!!! I need to do more research to work out if they're equally good..

Fingers crossed! I think the same lens is only about $15 more from Amazon.com if you have no luck with Walmart...

Sadly, I'm not doing the Panama Canal Repo (that's in January) but the 6 day one that takes the Wonder up the West Coast to Vancouver for next summer's Alaska cruises. Would LOVE to do the Panama Canal one day - maybe if/when the Wonder returns to Port Canaveral...

Another couple of completely numpty questions, I'm afraid. :headache:

What would be the lens you find most useful/useful? I've been reading (always a dangerous thing ;) ) and it seems that a 14-140mm lens is very popular...

Also, does anyone use a pancake lens??

Thank you! :flower3:
