I saw this on their website today. Although it does not affect me, I thought it was a nice proactive thing to do.

"Due to inclement weather in the Northeast, Customers holding tickets for travel to/from Albany, Baltimore/Washington, Hartford/Springfield, Long Island/Islip, Manchester and Providence on Friday, December 5 through Saturday, December 6, may rebook travel or receive a refund without penalty."

Ellen,
Thanks for posting that. SWA is definitely classy. A business with a heart, how refreshing!!!! :)

I flew SW today. This policy appears to have one flaw. Apparently a LOT of people went to the Orlando airport to fly back to New England today. The agent announced that she was trying, but.... There just were not enough seats.

I gathered from her announcement some people were getting rude. Just remember, your gate agent is NOT God and cannot change the weather.

By the way, this was on Delta.com

Customers who desire to change their flight as a result of the winter storm on December 5th through the 7th, 2003 confirmed on Delta, Delta Connection®, or Delta-coded flights may make changes without penalty or additional fees if rebooking flights and traveling by December 12, 2003.

USAirways is doing the same thing. Good business move.

Cancellation Due to Weather
For service cancelled due to weather conditions, US Airways will provide the following options to customers, at no extra cost:
Reschedule travel to originate up to seven days later,
Re-accommodation on alternate flights on US Airways, US Airways Express or on another airline if an alternative flight does not depart within four hours,
Customers en route can return to their origin and reschedule travel to originate up to seven days later, or
Receive a refund for the full value of the ticket.

Reaccomodation Procedure
Passengers originally scheduled to travel to or from affected airports above, on the dates specified, will be able to make the changes outlined below to their itineraries. For flights originally scheduled for this time period, US Airways will waive the standard change fee, advance reservation or ticketing requirements.

The entire itinerary can be moved forward or delayed, up to seven days from the scheduled origination date. The length of the trip cannot be changed.

Full value of wholly unused tickets can be applied toward the purchase of a ticket to an alternate destination, with travel to originate within seven days of the scheduled origination date.

I agree - SW has great customer service!! Anyone can be great in a perfect situation - it is when a company comes through when things are not that proves they are worth our hard earned $$ - now if they would just extend their dates past 4/2 - I would be more than happy - I have been sleeping in the office with the computer on for the last two days. Looking forward to spring break in Disney without having to morgage the house to get there. To all those in the NE - hunker down and be safe this weekend.
