Another Reason to Buy Where You Want to Stay

What I hate about this situation is that they didn't make it a nice offer to begin with. If they had said "So sorry some rooms are unavailable due to maintenance. We'd like to move you to a fabulous 1 bedroom at OKW, include dinner at Olivia's and grant you priveleges to SAB, all for no extra points" many folks would feel like they'd won the lottery! Instead, they try to bully you, on the chance you'll be too nice to fuss. I resent that when Disney GOOFED, they didn't own up to that and try to fix it, instead they forced OP into a fight. Who needs that first thing on vacation?

I love OKW, but if we have booked at BCV then there are reasons we want to be THERE (usually SAB). Shame on Disney for trying to boot a member out. I agree that the folks paying cash should be the first to "go!"

Actually, right after "WHAT"?, I did say "but what about the points"? This was one of the reasons I asked to be connected to MS while at the front desk. The other was to verify with MS that they could really do that! MS's response was "what would it take to make you happy"? An appropriate response, I think. I reiterated the same list I gave the BC front desk, and he put me on hold. I was still on hold when the CM at BC came back and said I could have my room. So I waited and let MS know. It did not occur to me to ask for an upgrade, free dinner, etc. We had something like this happen before. We had a 1 BR non-smoking (medical reasons) reserved at BWV, and wound up in a studio for the night because no non-smoking 1 BR were available. I called MS from the room then, and they restored the difference in points. I'm sure they would have in this case, too. No worries about banking etc., the points we were using this trip have an August use year. Diana

I definitely agree with Colleen. While I hate seeing guests try to take advantage when something goes wrong (a tour guide at the MK told a tale of a guest who lost 50 cents in a tampon machine and wanted a free dinner as compensation....LOL) when you have a confirmed reservation that they cannot for whatever reason honor a serious offer of an upgrade or other tangible compensation is in order. The "OKW is your home resort" line just feels like they're trying to pull one over on you. I do consider overbooking a less than honorable approach to keeping resorts filled....I mean to confirm a reservation for more people than you have rooms for is just dishonest. I know its done all the time by airlines and hotels, but just because its done doesn't make it right.

I'm sure I could handle a situation like this...but my dh would be livid (good thing I do the checking in....).

I hate to say it, but if they were going to reimburse the points and let us stay free, DBF would take it in a heartbeat!

He's the guy at the airline counter saying "Do you need someone to bump?"

I've never heard of anything like that and I'm sure this really had nothing to do with your "home" resort. On the other hand I spent 2 weeks last year at the BCV and had such an outrageously bad experience with the front desk there I will never go back. Yes, I did write letters when I returned home and my points were refunded. While I'm sure many people have never had a problem at BCV we were treated rudely, lied to and ignored.....total lack of professionalism. Maybe they thought if they gave you that excuse you'd actually just believe them. Glad it worked out for you.

I think I can tell you what happened. Under FL law, an innkeeper can't "evict" a guest who continues to pay their bill, even if they exceed their reservation. The same law also protects an innkeeper from lawsuits for a variety of reasons, including "breach of contract" when they have to walk a guest.

So chances are either a cash guest or a guest using points that had more to use (yeah right! :p ) decided to stay longer and anted up cash or points or a combination of both.

Why the OP was chosen to be "walked" is a good question, generally the guest being walked is the poor slob who checks in at midnight after an 18 hour flight.

At any rate, even though it sucks, it can happen, and there's nothing that Disney can do about it.

I wouldn't have taken a walk to OKW, no way. To me that's like being moved to a moderate...not that both aren't nice, but to me the location is key.

I would have suggested a move to the BWV, or a suite at the YC or BC, with free laundry service for the length of my stay. Come to think of it--that doesn't sound like such a bad deal :)

I would have done the same thing but instead of free laundry, I would have opted for a few meal at Yachtsman's Steakhouse or Flying Fish!

This makes me very nervous as I am going to be arriving next week and am booked using OKW points. I made all my plans based on being in the epcot area, I hope I do not have any problems Barb

I wouldn't worry about it as it's so unlikely to happen that we may never hear of it again. Even if it does, you'll likely be in a win-win situation. If you hold your ground, you should get what you reserved. If you accept a change, you should get major benefits like discounted stay or a free stay, free meals, and the like. Actually I may be in a more risky situation than you as I'm staying at a BW 1 BR next month using an II exchange. If they're going to screw someone, it should be the exchanger, right?

As much as I like OKW, being sent there from BCV would definitely be a downgrade in terms of location and ammenities. ...

Yeah you would have to miss the ants and the air turning itself off and the smaller rooms. :jester: (Richy made me do it.)

BUT HEY! You are right in that you booked it, you had the points and you are a member, no way this should happen. Probably one of the BC hotel staff did this, not used to the DVC way.

JoePoe, you are cracking me up! I was waiting for that reply, but I was sure it would come rom Richyams...
