Another question on upgrades

We recently spent 3 nights at HRH with an APH rate. We had two rooms, both of which I booked and paid for. Today, I received a gold card - woohoo!!

Now I'm tryng to figure out how the upgrade thing works exactly at PBH. Please let me know if I have this right:

I can book a standard room, but be upgraded for free at time of reservation to a bay-view room OR

I can book a bay view room and be upgraded for free to a deluxe room

If I want to pay $35 I can request an upgrade to a suite at check-in. Does it matter which room I have booked (meaning, if I've been upgraded from stardard to bay-view at time of reservation, can I still upgrade to a suite for $35) or would I have to be in a deluxe rom to upgrade to the suite for $35?

And does it matter if I've gotten a discount on the rack rate - are the upgrades still applicable if I'm using AAA or APH rates?

Since youre gold, you book the garden, then the upgrade is to deluxe. The upgrade from garden to bay is for Blue members. Go ahead and book the upgraded deluxe, and then when you check in, ask for a suite upgrade. AAA rates count, APH dont (supposedly, but sometimes they do, to be sure book AAA or the supersavers rate from loews)

Just another slightly off topic question - how come the website doesn't price suites? Just wondering what the value of a $35 upgrade to a suite is (I'm thinking it's pretty good value!)

I think I saw the rate for a Portofino Suite at 539/night, kid's suite 559/night.

because, as per damo (who is at UO right now) they re-did the website and it's "flawed"
