Another question before I purchase

Here is the situation. My wife is pregnant with our first, and we definitely want to make Disney a regular vacation starting in about two years. I really want to buy into the club sooner than later, but will probably not use the points for at least two years. So, if I buy resale now and have points coming over the next few years, can I transfer (i.e. sell) borrowed points from next year (or 2008 or can I only transfer current use year points. I only ask because selling borrowed points when I don't need them will save me some finance charges on the loan to purchase. Thoughts or ideas??

You cannot transfer borrowed points. You can transfer points from your 2008 Use Year into another member's 2008 Use Year- but I don't think you can do that yet (you might be allowed to transfer 2007 points into another 2007 Use Year)- plus, I suspect that would be a separate transaction and would exceed the one-per-year policy.

Essentially, transfers are supposed to be done using only points from the current Use Year.

With the recent announcement that Disney is enforcing a policy of one transfer per use year, you will have to find one person who wants all of your current year points. You won't be able to transfer some of them to one person and the rest to someone else.

This may be obvious to you, but I'm hoping that you know that you can always rent your points without transferring them. You make a reservation for someone in their name and they pay you for the points used. No transfer involved.

Or you could buy a resale contract that is stripped for the current year so you don't have to worry about not using your points. Make sure you request for the owner to pay all the dues for the points that they have already used and see if they will come down in price for the lack of points.

Thanks for the insight everyone...really very helpful. I like the idea of either making reservations for someone or just buying a contract at a discount with not too many points left in '07.
