Another Question about WL and Transportation

Hi. After MUCH deliberation, we have chosen the WL over a suite at the ASM resort. Without debating the pros and cons of deluxe over values, here's what I'm wondering: We chose the WL because of the boat ride to MK for girls (7 and barely 2 at the time of travel). I'm ASSUMING: that most of our time will be at the MK so the boat ride is great for the little one and stroller. I'm ASSUMING when we go to other parks and ADR's we can take the boat to MK and then monorail to our next destination and avoid buses a lot of the time. Am I on the right track? ****Is the boat/monorail combination pretty smooth or does it take just as long as the bus system. If it takes just as long as the bus system, I might rather have the suite so my little ones who wake up every time we move, shower, and talk can sleep in the next room.
If the boat/monorail combo is a good one it may be worth sleeping every time the kids do. I like the idea of being able to get the baby back quickly if DH and DD (7) want to keep on Disneying! SORRY TO RAMBLE -THANKS.

IMO, the boat and proximity to Magic Kingdom is a huge selling point and the main reason we stayed there with DS. He always wants to be at MK, so it worked out well for us.

You don't want to take the boat to MK to get to anywhere else though. That would just be way more trouble than it's worth. Instead of just taking a bus from WL to Epcot, you'd be taking a boat to MK, getting on the Monorail to TTC, switching Monorails at the TTC, and then riding to Epcot. That's a lot of unneccessary transferring and waiting. I can't imagine that would ever be quicker. I did it once just because my son is a transportation nut. It took forever and ever.

I can see why you are considering both options. It's a hard one. It's always nice to have another room when you travel with little ones. However, if you're trying to cut down bus trips, I'd avoid All Stars. My two nights at All Stars was one big bus annoyance, so I don't really have anything positive to say about that. :rotfl:

You can take a different boat to Contemporary from WL, then go to the monorail and transfer to the epcot monorail. I've done this. The bus is quicker, this is a nice option and more fun. The monorail only goes to MK or Epcot and they are two diff loops, which is why you'd transfer to the other one at the Transportation and Ticket Center (Monorail hub) TTC, to go to Epcot.

Buses to Disney Studios and AK would be necesary, but that's how it is for everyone pretty much.

The boat to MK is great, it is what makes WL one of my favorite resorts. I like the boat better than the monorail even if I'm doing one or another lots, because its outdoors and so nice. I even take the boat to poly when I go there as opposed to the monorail, from MK.

Thanks for the info. I was under the impression that we would monorail to Epcot and that there was some easy access from Epcot to Disney Studios. I guess we need to research transportation a little more.

We were there in 2006 kids 11 and 7 me and dh and the convience of the boat to MK and the boat to Contemp. was great. We rode the bus I think twice only to go to downtown disney and to Yachtsman steakhouse for dinner. I really liked the fact that we got to experience all disney transportation while we were there. I really would like to stay there again but dh was thinking he wants to try somewhere else only to experience the other disney resorts.

From the Magic Kingdom, the monorail will take you to the Contemporary, the TTC (ticket and transportation center), the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian.

If you want to go to Epcot, you can get off of the monorail you took from the Magic Kingdom at the TTC and transfer to the Epcot monorail.

See, there are two monorails. One does the MK-Contemporary-TTC-Poly-GF-MK loop. The other runs back and forth between the TTC and Epcot.

Those are the only places the monorail will take you.

If you want to get from the WL to the Contemporary, it would be faster to do it by boat. If you want to get to Epcot, it would be faster to do it by bus.

Going to DS will be MUCH, MUCH faster by bus. Taking the boat to the MK (or Contemporary), then the monorail to the TTC, then another monorail to Epcot, then entering the front of Epcot, walking through the whole park and out the back, getting on another boat (or walking quite a little bit) to DS would take forever and day.

Your transportation options will be much better at WL than All Stars. If you're planning to spend a lot of time at MK then I would go with WL, especially if you want to return to your hotel for a mid day break.
